This weekend’s Grammy Awards gave a big boost to the music industry as tons of albums across the board saw huge sales increases. The biggest gain belonged to Grammy performers and nominees Mumford & Sons whose latest, Sigh No More, flew up to #2. In fact, all of the Grammy nominees and winners in the top ten saw at least 20 % increases in their weekly sales. However, none of them could stop the latest Now! collection from debuting on top with 151,000 copies. That’s the biggest tally for a chart topping album since early December. For the full top ten, scroll down and for all your chart news head to Billboard here.
Also making big news was five time Grammy winner Lady Gaga who picked up three trophies on Sunday and now can celebrate with the brand new # 1 song in the country as her latest single “Born This Way” rockets on to the chart. In fact, not only does it grab the highest sales week for a song by a female artist (debuting with 448,000 units sold), but it also makes history at the 1000th # 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Congratulations Gaga. I bet she’s super eggscited, hehe… And not to be outdone either are the Grammy nominated Glee kids who land seven more singles on the chart this week bringing their total Hot 100 chart entries to a massive 113 entries. That officially gives them the record of most songs by an act to hit that chart as they topple Elvis Presley’s former record of 108 charted singles. Don’t stop believin that that number will go up next week too.
