Season 7 American Idol winner David Cook is following in the footsteps of previous winners Ruben Studdard and Carrie Underwood. You see he just recorded the season 10 “Farewell” song and it’s kinda awesome. Cook’s track is a remake of the classic 1985 #1 smash from Simple Minds “Don’t You Forget About Me” made famous in the film The Breakfast Club. After a couple of listens, I think this may be our best goodbye song in quite sometime. Cook remains reverential to the original but still give it his own rocking edge. The song will be featured tonight for the first time on the results show and will be available for download at digital outlets on Tuesday 3/8. It will also be included on his new album due later this spring. Check it out below and let me know if you think it’s one of the better farewell songs (like Daniel Powter’s smash “Bad Day”, Daughtry’s “Home”) or a more forgetful one (Will Young’s “Leave Right Now”).
