Pixar and Disney can do no wrong it seems. Even when the film is a bit of a disappointment like last year’s Cars 2, all of Pixar’s movies open on top of the box office and that’s just what Brave did this weekend. Taking in a strong $66.7 million, the animated adventure looks to be the third official big hit of this summer following Madagascar 3 and the massive smash The Avengers. While a few others have garnered decent grosses like Men in Black 3, Prometheus and Snow White and the Huntsman, each of those pictures will likely just break even or make a small profit in the end (most likely MIB3)… So kudos to Brave for avoiding this summer’s hex. Unfortunately, the two other films opening this weekend continued the bombfest of 2012 as Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter grossed a lackluster $16.5 million and the Steve Carrell/Keira Knightley dramedy Seeking a Friend for the End of the World barely managed $3.8 million. Last week’s two clunkers, the highly entertaining Rock of Ages and the abysmal That’s My Boy, both fell around 42% in their second weeks which isn’t bad but neither will get anywhere close to their production budgets… For more on these numbers and all the summer box office, head to Box Office Mojo here.
