The Dark Knight Rises to the Top!

July 24, 2012

As expected the final chapter in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, rose to the top of the box office charts over the weekend. The film starring Oscar winners Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Marion Cottillard and Michael Caine, Oscar nominees Anne Hathaway and Gary Oldman, SAG Award nominee Tom Hardy and Golden Globe nominee Joseph Gordon-Levitt set the record for the biggest 2D opening in history with a massive $160.8 million over its first three days. That also qualifies as the third biggest opening overall behind the 3D openers of The Avengers and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2. The movie should hold up quite well in the weeks ahead as it has garnered great reviews (I give the fantastic film an “A” grade) and audiences who may have been nervous to see it after the tragic shootings in Colorado venture back to the theatre…. In The Dark Knight’s wake, the rest of the top ten took a hit with Spider-man and Savages both dropping over 60 %…. For more on all the box office numbers, the records broken by The Dark Knight Rises and more, head to Box Office Mojo here. And check out the new top ten below.

First Look- The Dark Knight Rises

December 20, 2011

It’s here~ your first look at the most highly anticipated film of 2012, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. The third film in Nolan’s Batman trilogy could be his last and it looks like he’s going out with a bang. The trailer brings back your favorites including Oscar winners Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine plus Gary Oldman while introducing new a new love interest for Bruce Wayne in Oscar winner Marion Cottillard. Also along for the ride are Golden Globe nominee Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy as the brutal villain Bane, and Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman! It looks good. Check out the brand new trailer below and brace for the film which hits theatres on July 20th.

The Dark Knight Rises

Check out the new Superman, Spiderman and Catwoman!

August 5, 2011

While this summer of superheroes is finally coming to an end with a couple of successes (Thor, Captain America), a decent extension of a franchise (X Men: First Class) and a big ole bomb (The Green Lantern), Hollywood is setting its sights on next summer. Three of the biggest superheroes are heading back to the big screen with the most anticipated film being The Dark Knight Rises, the third film from Oscar winner Christopher Nolan in his trilogy which brings us a new battle between Batman (Christian Bale) and baddie Bane (Tom Hardy), but we will also see the return of Catwoman in the form of Oscar winner Anne Hathaway. And Entertainment Weekly just published the first pic of her from set. Check it out below.

Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises

EW has also been sharing pics of the other exciting superheroe’s returning next year with the reboots of the Superman series starring Henry Cavill (The Tudors, The Immortals) and Spiderman starring Andrew Garfield (The Social Network). Take a look at both new crime fighters below…. Then, let me know which one you think will live up to the title best and which film you’re most excited to see.

First Look~ The Dark Knight Rises!

July 19, 2011

If any of you saw Harry Potter over the weekend (and that’s probably all of you, me too), you might have seen the trailer for the most anticipated film of the year. However, the year I’m speaking of is 2012 and the film is The Dark Knight Rises, the third picture in Christopher Nolan’s incredible Batman trilogy. There aren’t too many clues given in the trailer, but it’s still all kinds of awesome as we get glimpses of Oscar winner Chrstian Bale, Oscar nominee Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy (Inception) who plays new baddie Bane. Unfortunately, there are no glimpses of returnee stars Oscar nominee Liam Neeson and Oscar winners Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine or newbies Oscar winner Marion Cottillard, Golden Globe nominee Joseph Gordon-Levitt, or Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway who’s taking on the role of Catwoman! Nonetheless, it looks great and I, for one, can’t wait til next summer. In the meantime, check out the new trailer below.

My Big Bold Academy Award WINNER Predictions 2011

February 24, 2011

Ok, they’re finally here: my big bold Academy Award winner predictions… Now, as usual I’m giving you who I think will and should win…. This year, we have several strong races like The Kings Speech and The Social Network for Best Picture and Annette Bening v. Natalie Portman for Best Actress that could go down to the wire. In fact, the race for Best Director and Supporting Actress are seeming more and more unpredictable. Will there be a major surprise? Will The Kings Speech sweep? And will the little categories mess you up in your Oscar pool? (Um, they probably will unfortunately). Nonetheless, I’m making my educated guesses here and trying not to go with my heart. So, take a look at my thoughts below and watch the show on Sunday on ABC with your hosts former nominee Anne Hathaway and current Oscar nominee James Franco!

SAG crowns a King and Betty White!

January 31, 2011

Last year she stole the show when she won the Lifetime Achievement Award. This year she stole the show again as she won Best Actress in a Comedy Series. All hail Betty White, the hottest 89-year-old around as the SAG Awards honored her for her first individual performance win and she kindly responded with the best and funniest speech of the night~ even fondling her statue. How much do we love Betty!? … Now, the show wasn’t all about Betty, the Screen Actors Guild also honored the movies with all the front-runners taking home awards including Colin Firth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo. It seems all but assured that they will likely repeat at the Oscars next month. Things could still change, but they’re all safe bets now. Another good bet is that The King’s Speech will deservedly take home Best Picture as it added the Best Ensemble win to its mantle at tonight’s show…. Other television wins went to the casts of Modern Family and Boardwalk Empire plus Steve Buscemi and Juliana Marugiles in the drama categories and Alec Baldwin grabbed his 5th consecutive win for Comedy Actor. Take a look at the full list of winners below (and no, all of the people I voted for didn’t win… wanna know who I was pulling for? Shoot me an email. My Big Bold Golden Globe WINNER Predictions 2011!

January 13, 2011

So, the big show is on Sunday the 16th and all the stars will be there… But the question is just who will win the coveted Golden GlobeWell, if you’re looking for a little insight, look no further than my big bold Golden Globe Winner Predictions. I’ve got them here for you below! … Now remember, the Globes often like to throw a curveball and give their trophies to stars over more deserving winners and that might happen this year in a couple of categories. They also like to award more of their European brethern than other organizations. They are the Hollywood Foreign Press Association after all, but I think they’ll stay mostly on track with these very competitive races. In fact, the awards race this year is still pretty wide open, so the Globes (and Friday’s Critic’s Choice Awards will likely shed a little light on who may be the big winner come Oscar time). So, take a look at my brilliant predictions below and watch the show hosted by the hilarious Ricky Gervais this Sunday 1/16 at 8pm on NBC.

The Social Network cements its front-runner status as the Darling of the National Board of Review

December 2, 2010

The National Board of Review is traditionally the first big group to name its kudos for the year and today they crowned The Social Network the best picture of the year. They also gave it Director (David Fincher), Actor (Jesse Eisenberg) and Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin) honors. It’s not too much of a surprise as it seems like Network has been the clear critical favorite so far this season and is likely to land at the top of most awards lists this winter. The more interesting news was the honors for Best Actress going to Lesley Manville (Another Year) and Supporting Actress to Jackie Weaver (Animal Kingdom) for a small independent British film and an even smaller indie Australian film. That should bolster both of those ladies chances in the weeks ahead. Grabbing Supporting Actor honors was Christian Bale for the upcoming film The Fighter. Take a look at all the winners below.
