GLEE takes on Moulin Rouge and I Love It!

March 9, 2013

This week, Glee went to the movies covering some of the best songs of all time from the cinema like “Shout” from Animal House, “Unchained Melody” from Ghost, and “Footloose” from Footloose. However, there were two performances that really stood out. First the guys from the Glee club did a Tom Cruise homage with an awesome mashup of “Danger Zone/Old Time Rock n’ Roll” from Top Gun and Risky Business. However, the second was my favorite and it comes from my favorite movie of all time, the brilliant Oscar-winning musical Moulin Rouge. Singing the Golden Globe winning love anthem “Come What May”, Kurt (Golden Globe winner Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) declared their love for each other in a wonderful dream sequence. It was fantastic and is aptly the biggest selling song from the episode on iTunes. Check out both songs below and watch Glee Thursday nights on Fox.

Glee Preview~ “Flashdance… What a Feeling”

May 11, 2012

Next week, we get a big double dose of Glee as the show heads toward the graduation season finale. The first episode gives us a special look at the underutilized and delightful Jenna Ushkowitz as Tina. Her character takes a fall, hits her head, and wakes up to a world where all the characters have switched bodies and personalities. I mean, just wait til you see Puck (Mark Salling) as Blaine (Darren Criss)…. In the second episode, the gang heads to the Nationals singing competition and clearly they are excited. For proof, take a look at the first number from the show to hit the web, “Flashdance… What a Feeling” below. It’s a great cover of the Oscar and Grammy winning 1983 smash by Irene Cara from the film Flashdance… And watch the double dose of Glee Tuesday night on Fox.

I shared with you the cast’s take on One Direction’s current top ten hit “What Makes You Beautiful” last week, and now I have a few more numbers from the show below. Check out Lea Michelle, Darren Criss and Chris Colfer on Fergie‘s # 1 hit “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, Naya Rivera and Diana Agron on a gorgeous version of Berlin’s 1986 Oscar nominated # 1 hit from Top Gun “Take My Breath Away”, and Naya Rivera’s take on Selena Gomez & the Scene‘s recent hit “Love You Like a Love Song” below. More “Glee”- Whitney Highlights

April 25, 2012

Last week, I shared with you Glee’s amazing a capella version of the late great Grammy winning icon Whitney Houston‘s # 1 smash “How Will I Know”, and last night the episode that featured the song finally aired. Along with that great number, the show tackled six more Whitney classics. They were the # 1′s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)”, “So Emotional”, “Saving All My Love for You” and the # 4 hits “I Have Nothing”, “It’s Not Right but It’s Ok” and “My Love is Your Love”. Here I have a few more highlights for you from the emotional and wonderful episode. Enjoy.

Glee Previews~ “You Should Be Dancing” and “Disco Inferno”

April 16, 2012

This week Glee takes on the iconic 70′s disco film Saturday Night Fever with a special tribute episode featuring music from the film. Grammy winning Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame legends The Bee Gees were responsible for most of the big songs from the soundtrack which to date is the second biggest selling soundtrack of all time following Whitney Houton’s The Bodyguard. The album featured # 1 smashes “Night Fever”, “If I Cant Have You”, “Stayin’ Alive” and “You Should Be Dancing”. The latter song was actually a # 1 hit in 1976 for the Bee Gees but was featured prominently in the 1978 film, and it’s the first clip we get to preview. Check out Blaine (Darren Criss), Mike (Harry Shum Jr.) and Brittany (Heather Morris) tearing up the dance floor with their take on “You Should Be Dancing” below. Then scroll down for our next clip featuring Mercedes (Amber Riley) absolutely slaying The Tramps’ “Disco Inferno” which hit # 11 on the charts after being re-released on the Fever soundtrack. Enjoy both clips and watch an all new disco-fied Glee tomorrow night on Fox.

Glee Preview~ “Somebody That I Used to Know” with Matt Bomer

April 3, 2012

Glee is finally back from its winter hiatus next Tuesday April 10th, and boy is it coming back strong. Not only will find out the fate of Quinn (Diana Agron) who was in a car crash at the end of the last episode, but we will also meet Blaine’s (Darren Criss) brother played by the gorgeous and talented White Collar star Matt Bomer. The first song from the show just hit the web and after looking at this duet between the brothers, there is clearly some drama going on from their past. Check out the boys singing Gotye’s current top 5 smash “Somebody that I used to Know” below. Not only is Bomer a great actor and ridiculously handsome, but the man can SANG!

Glee sings with the People’s Choice Awards

November 8, 2011

Glee is having a critically resurgent season this fall and tonight is their big “First Time” episode featuring a couple of big “firsts” in the romantic lives of their couples Kurt (Chris Colfer) & Blaine (Darren Criss) and Rachel (Lea Michelle) and Finn (Cory Monteith). So, it’s fitting that today the show has more to celebrate as it lead this morning’s People’s Choice Award nominations garnering 7 nods including Favorite Comedy and bids for stars Colfer, Monteith, Michelle, Jane Lynch and guest stars Kristin Chenowith and Gwyneth Paltrow. We’ll see how the show fares when the awards are handed out on CBS on January 11th, 2012 live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles…. Leading the music nominees were the ladies with Katy Perry, Beyonce, Adele, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga all garnering multiple nods. On the movie side, The Help, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Bridesmaids and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 led the charge. One interesting note came with the four nominations for Ryan Reynolds despite all of his movies tanking this year…. Glee’s Pot o’ Gold

November 2, 2011

Last night, Glee returned from a way too long hiatus (darn you baseball) with a plot heavy episode that moved things along nicely (hello evil Quinn, Sue v. Mr. Hummell, and Puck/Shelby kiss!) and introduced Glee Project winner Damian McGinty as Rory the Irish exchange student. While he’s clearly a little green (pun intended) as an actor, McGinty exuded tons of charm, a lovely voice and is a nice addition to glee club. Check out this behind the scenes clip on his first episode of Glee.

Along with Rory joining the glee club, we had Santana (Naya Rivera who was brilliantly bitchy last night) and Brittany (Heather Morris) defecting to the all girl vocal group led by Mercedes (Amber Riley) and the trio did a great version of Christina Aguilera’s “Candyman”. Here it is.

Glee~ Mercedes, Santana & Brittany “Candyman”

And finally, one of the best numbers of the night had very little to do with anything but it was a lot of fun and gave Darren Criss’s Blaine a chance to shine (albeit, I could’ve done with a little less auto-tuning). Here’s “Last Friday Night” (originally done by Katy Perry).

Glee Cast- “Last Friday Night”

And tune in next week for what is sure to be a great episode “The First Time” which has Rachel (Emmy nominee Lea Michelle) and Kurt (Golden Globe winner Chris Colfer) planning to lose their virginity!

Glee Highlights from the Season Premiere

September 21, 2011

Glee began season three on a positive note last night. The show looks more grounded this year as it focuses on the core relationships of the Glee clubbers and seamlessly integrated Blaine (Darren Criss) into New Directions. I’m excited about the Blaine/Kurt relationship, the Blaine/Finn rivalry, Mercedes new romance, Santana’s “Sophies’s Choice” issues with Glee v. Cheerios, and the Kurt/Rachel theatre dreams storylines…. I’m not sold on the cohabitation of Will & Emma or Sue’s run for congress just yet. But I’m pleased overall and looking forward to where the new season will take us. That said, here are my faves from last night.

Glee cast “You Can’t Stop the Beat” (from the Tony winning Broadway musical Hairspray)

Blaine- ”I’ts Not Unusual” (the Tom Jones classic)

And big props go out to Lindsay Pierce, the girl who should’ve won this year’s Glee Project contest, who kinda stole the whole show with her fantastic performance of “Anything Goes” songs from the Broadway musical. As a big musical theatre geek, Harmony, Lindsay was funny and fierce and I hope they bring her back for more than just her 2 promised episodes (as a runner-up). Check her out below.
