Pop powerhouse P!nk and punk poppers Paramore make it ladies week on the BillboardCharts as they top the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 Album tallies. On the latter list, Paramore nabs their first chart topper with their new self titled album which narrowly holds off the latest from Brad Paisley, Wheelhouse. Other top ten debuts this week come from Eric Church, Tyga, rockers Volbeat and Stone Sour. Falling down to # 3 after three weeks on top is Justin Timberlake with The 20/20 Experience, but he can take solace on the singles chart as “Mirrors” hits # 7 giving him two top ten singles from the disc. More on the singles chart in a bit, but in the meantime check out the new Albums chart below.

Back on the Hot 100 singles chart, P!nk nabs her fourth chart topper as her duet with fun.’s Nate Reuss “Just Give Me a Reason” charges up from # 3. P!nk previously hit the top with “So What”, “Raise Your Glass” and “Lady Marmalade” with Christina Aguilera, Mya and Lil Kim. While this is only her 4th overall # 1, P!nk has had over ten # 1 Pop hits and Adult Pop hits… P!nk boots out Bruno Mars but will have to fend off some newcomers to the top-tier as the aforementioned Timberlake flies up to # 7 with hist twelfth top ten hit “Mirrors” just behind his other hit “Suit & Tie” and Demi Lovato‘s “Heart Attack” which charges into the top ten at # 10… For more on all the charts, head to Billboard here and check out the new top ten below.

This year’s MTV Video Music Awardsratings were down 50 percent and I’m not really surprised. The show was really lackluster with only Pink delivering a killer performance with her latest amazing single “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)”. Other performances by Taylor Swift, One Direction, and Rihanna were pretty blah while Green Day and Alicia Keys (featuring gold medal winning Olympian Gaby Douglas) could only muster a little more excitement. And then there was the mess that was 2 Chainz. Aside from that you had egotistical and arrogant winners like Rihanna and her douchebag jerk bf Chris Brown spouting ungrateful speeches or just incoherent ones from the likes of Nicki Minaj (oh dear what is she gonna be like on American Idol next season?)… Speaking of One Direction, they were the big winners with 3 awards while Rihanna took home two including Video of the Year for “We Found Love”. Take a look at all the winners below and head to MTV here for more info on the show and the performances.

The new shows on Fox’s fall 2012 schedule sound pretty promising especially a new comedy from The Office star Mindy Kaling. However, they all may be overshadowed by the re-working of The X Factorwith two new judges, teen starlet Demi Lovato and pop princess and headline-maker Britney Spears. Just how will these two affect the show and will they bring in higher ratings? We will see, but Britney has a total young Paula thing going for her, so I will at least tune in a couple of times to see if things have changed for the better. (And how could they not? The show was a mess last season!)… Fox made some news with other interesting schedule changes moving Glee to Thursdays following The X Factor results show, moving Touchto Fridays alongside the final season of Fringe, and installing an all comedy lineup on Tuesday with Raising Hope, New Girl, the aforementioned The Mindy Projectand the sibling comedy Ben & Kate. New dramas include The Mob Doctorstarring Jordana Spiro and the midseason entry The Following about a serial killer (James Purefoy) being traced by a former FBI agent (Kevin Bacon in his first TV series)… Midseason will also bring the return of American Idol and another new comedy The Goodwin Games…With the new additions come the cancellations of Terra Nova, I Hate My Teenage Daughter, Breaking In, The Finder and Alcatraz along with House departing after 8 seasons. Just a week after becoming the oldest artist to chart on the BillboardHot 100 Singles Chart, Tony Bennett sets another record as he becomes the oldest artist to top the Billboard 200 Album chart. He accomplishes the feat with his highest charting record to date, Duets II, which features the Grammy winning legend sharing the mic with a host of big names like Michael Buble, Carrie Underwood, Amy Winehouse, Faith Hill and Lady Gaga. Bennet, 85 years young, leads 5 new entries on the Album chart including Demi Lovato who grabs her third top ten album. Check out the new list below.

And here’s a great track from Duets II~ Tony and Carrie Underwood doing “It Had To Be You” as performed on the season premiere of Blue Bloods last week.
Checking in on the singles chart, things are pretty much static with Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera holding off Adele and Foster the People. There is one big debut in the top ten as LMFAO makes it two in a row in the upper reaches with their second single “Sexy and I Know It” flying up to # 10…. Big debuts this week include Rihanna‘s latest featuring Calvin Harris “We Found Love” at # 16 while the Glee Cast adds for more tracks to their output with “It’s Not Unusual” beginning at # 65, “You Can’t Stop the Beat” at # 68 and “We Got the Beat” at 83. (The original version of the latter track by the Go Go’s went all the way to # 2 almost thirty years ago.) For more on all the charts, head to Billboard here. And here’s the new top ten on the Hot 100…

The Voice may have been a fun albeit disastrous mess and a total American Idol clone, but it was also a ratings hit. And it has helped fuel sales of all the singers from the show. Um, let me rephrase~ the singing COACHES from the show. You see Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green have all had strong digital sales of their recent singles (“Never Gonna Leave this Bed”, “Moves Like Jagger”, “Bright Lights Bigger City”) and their catalog of albums since the show began. However, the standout has been country superstar Blake Shelton who recently grabbed his first Hot 100 top ten hit with “Honey Bee” and now grabs his first # 1 album on the Billboard 200 as he debuts on top with Red River Blue. It also becomes his 5th top ten album and his second consecutive # 1 country album. Now, if only the winner Javier Colon could drum up some sales for his long gone debut single “Stitch by Stich” (the same goes for the runners-up Dia Frampton, Beverly McClellan and Vicci Martinez whose singles have all but disappeared)… If you compare Colon to Idol’s most recent winner, Scotty McCreery, he has his work cut out for him. McCreery’s debut single “I Love You This Big” is top 20 at country radio and continues to sell well months after its release. Scotty has also had two hit compilation albums and remains in the top 20 with his Walmart release this week. So, The Voice has some catching up to do for its contestants, but was a big boon for its judges, ahem, coaches.
Now, back to the Billboard 200, Shelton leads 6 debuts in the top ten including rockers Incubus who grab their 5th top five album with If Not Now, When. Also new this week are the latest from Colbie Caillat, country singer Chris Young, Theory of a Deadman and Sublime with Rome. For all of the album charts news, head to Billboard here, and check out the new top ten below.
Top Ten Albums on the Billboard 200:
1. Red River Blue- Blake Shelton (debut)
2. If Not Now, When?- Incubus (debut)
3. 21- Adele (last week~ 2)
4. Neon- Chris Young (debut)
5. 4- Beyonce (lw~ 1)
6. All of You- Colbie Caillat (debut)
7. My Kinda Party- Jason Aldean (lw~ 4)
8. The Truth Is… – Theory of a Deadman (debut)
9. Yours Truly- Sublime With Rome (debut)
10. When the Sun Goes Down- Selena Gomez & the Scene (lw~ 3)
Over on the singles, chart, it’s a lot of the same old, same old with LMFAO holding pat for the third week at # 1 with “Party Rock Anthem”. The big news comes from recovered Disney princess Demi Lovato who debuts big at # 10 with her awesome new single “Skyscraper”. Here’s your new Hot 100 top ten…
Top Ten Singles on the Hot 100
1. “Party Rock Anthem”- LMFAO (last week~ 1) 3rd week on top
2. “Give Me Everything”- Pitbull w/NeYo, Nayer & Afrojack (lw~ 2)
3. “Last Friday Night”- Katy Perry (lw~ 4)
4. “Rolling in the Deep”- Adele (lw~ 3)
5. “Super Bass”- Nicki Minaj (lw~ 5)
6. “How to Love”- Lil Wayne (lw~ 7)
7. “The Edge of Glory”- Lady Gaga (lw~ 6)
8. “Good Life”- OneRepublic (lw~8)
9. “Tonight Tonight”- Hot Chelle Rae (lw~ 9)
10. “Skyscraper”- Demi Lovato (debut)
.. And an interesting note farther down the Hot 100 chart comes from the Re-Entry of Jason Aldean & Kelly Clarkson’s # 1 country smash “Don’t You Wanna Stay” at # 48. The single previously spent 6 months on the chart peaking at # 31, but after recently landing in the top ten of the Adult Contemporary and Hot Adult Contemporary charts, it returns to the overall Hot 100. It’s also getting a lot of pop airplay, so another long run could be on the way. Congrats Jason & Kelly! (Yes, it’s my fave song of 2011, so here it is again!)
Grammy nominated American Idol winner Jordin Sparks is taking on Disney popstar Demi Lovato. No, not in a Celebrity Deathmatch, but in a sing off. After hearing Demi’s awesome new, post-rehab single “Skyscraper” (which makes a big debut on the Hot 100 this week giving her the biggest hit of her career to date), Jordin felt compelled to make her own version for her fans. And now they’re battling it out on the web. I have to say both girls sing the pants off the song, but there seems to be a little more true emotion in Lovato’s version. That’s not surprising considering her personal troubles in the past year and Jordin’s only drama comes from the fact that her latest single “I Am Woman” tanked on the charts. But what do you think? Who’s version do you like better? Take a listen below and let me know. And watch for Demi and Jordin’s new albums this fall.

Eminem returns to the top of the Billboard Top 200 albums chart again this week as his Recovery notches a 6th non consecutive week at the summit. With another big sales week, he passes the 2 million mark and will soon be taking on Lady Antebellum’sNeed You Now for the top-selling album of 2010. He also has the longest running number 1 of the year so far and holds off four new debuts. The highest ranking new record is the Camp Rock 2 soundtrack featuring the stars of the TV movie Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers at # 3. Also debuting this week is newcomer Mike Posner (who has a hit single in “Cooler than Me”), some band I’ve never heard of called Black Label Society and country crooner Blake Shelton. For the full top ten, scroll down and get all your chart info from Billboard here.

Eminem also returns to the top of the Hot Digital Songs chart (and likely continues his reign on the Hot 100 tomorrow) with his smash “Love the Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna. I’m finally on the bandwagon and kinda love the song. However, it’s so reminiscent of the recent top 10 hit “Airplanes” by B.o.B. featuring Hayely Williams. Don’t believe me? Check them out below and compare…. Interesante…
Last night’s American Idol results show was all about tween power with performances by members of the Disney machine. That 17 year old going on 40 Miley Cyrus took the stage followed by a rather hot Joe Jonas and some girl named Demi Lovato who I’m sure the “kids” enjoy… Aside from those forgetful performances, we actually got the right results with poor Paige going home. She never really stood a chance… and she didn’t have any Disney Zack Efron hair to fall back on like Tim. So, it’s buh bye to Paige and we have the first Idol top 10 without an African American female. For my full take, check out my Limewire Music Blog recap below:
