Stability is the Name of the Game on CBS’s Fall 2012 Schedule

May 16, 2012

CBS has been the network with the biggest overall audience for like a decade or so and it is likely to stay that way with a very stable new fall slate for 2012. The question is can they get the younger viewers that all the networks covet? With the addition of a new comedy called Partners from the Will & Grace creators starring Michael Urie and David Krumholtz as business partners and best friends, one gay and one straight, they could hit pay dirt. The show is joining the Monday comedy lineup which will now be anchored by last year’s breakout hit 2 Broke Girls as Two and a Half Men moves to Thursday…. The other big move is The Mentalist heading to Sundays following CBS’s best show The Good Wife… New dramas include Elementary with Johnny Lee Miller as a modern-day Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as his Watson, Vegas starring Dennis Quaid in the city’s 60′s heyday, and a law drama called Made in Jersey with Kyle MacLachlan and Janet Montgomery... Midseason brings the cop drama Golden Boy, the comedy Friend Me with Christopher Mintz-Plasse and the reality show The Job…. Making room for these new contenders meant it was cancellation time for A Gifted Man, Unforgettable, Rob, and CSI Miami after 10 seasons… Also, there’s no official word on the return of Rules of Engagement, but the veteran comedy is rumored to be returning for one final 13 episode season later in the year. Bad Hollywood~ They went and remade Footloose!

June 24, 2011

Oh Hollywood, when oh when will you learn? … You just have to remake old properties over and over and rarely does it work. For every Karate Kid hit, you have a dozen A-Team sized bombs. And now, you’re doing it again remaking the 80′s dance classic Footloose that launched the career of Golden Globe winner Kevin Bacon. The movie about a town that outlaws dancing in the middle of the good ole USA was quite timely back in 1984 and featured an amazing soundtrack with the top ten hit “Almost Paradise” by Mike Reno and Ann Wilson, and the # 1 hits “Let’s Hear It for the Boy” by Deniece Williams and the title cut by Kenny Loggins. It also gave us a riotously evil performance by multiple Emmy winner John Lithgow and featured Fame’s Lori Singer and Emmy and Golden Globe winner Sarah Jessica Parker. The movie was awesome and even spun off a theatrical stage musical. You’d think that would be enough… However, the powers that be at Paramount have decided to bring this tale to a younger audience and instead of taking a new spin with it like filming an actual musical of it (like originally planned), it looks as though they’ve just done a shot for shot remake. Argh. And I’m sorry but judging from the trailer, it does not improve on the original. This one stars newcomer Kenny Wormald alongside Julianne Hough (Dancing with the Stars), Andie MacDowell and Golden Globe nominee Dennis Quaid and hits theatres in October and I have the first trailer for you. Check it out below and let me know if you want to cut loose with Footloose again.

First Look~ Carrie Underwood’s Movie Debut

January 11, 2011

Five time Grammy award-winning country superstar Carrie Underwood is currently riding a wave of marital bliss and career success. She just landed her 13th top 2 country song with her current single “Mama’s Song” (which could become her 11th # 1 next week) and finished a fantastically successful tour. (I saw her at the Hollywood Bowl and she was amazing). She’s also up for another Grammy award this February for Female Country Vocal for “Temporary Home”.  Now, she is spreading her wings as an actress. After previously appearing on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, Carrie is next headed to the silver screen in the film Soul Surfer. In the true story, she plays a counselor and friend to Bethany Hamilton, the young surfer girl who continues to aspire to greatness after a shark attack. The movie also stars Anna Sophia Robb (Medium) as Frankel and Oscar winner Helen Hunt (As Good As It Gets) and Golden Globe nominee Dennis Quaid (Far From Heaven) as her parent. And hey, TV’s Hercules himself, Kevin Sorbo is also in the picture. That’s just a few reasons to see Carrie’s film debut. Take a look at the first trailer for the film below and watch for it to hit theatres on April 8th.
