Flo Rida Whistles His Way to the Top

August 16, 2012

It took nine weeks, but someone has finally decided not to call Carly Rae Jepsen. That person is rapper Flo Rida who takes his third top ten hit of 2012, “Whistle” to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 this week ending Jepsen’s long reign. Following the top five hits “Wild Ones” and “Good Feeling”, Flo Rida’s “Whistle” does what few third singles can do peaking higher than their predecessors and becomes hit third single to reach the summit following “Low” and “Right Round”. Flo holds off Ellie Goulding who retains her bullet at # 2 with “Lights” and a new competitor with fun.‘s second consecutive top ten hit “Some Nights” flying into the top ten at # 9. The Game, Barbra, Maroon 5 and Xtina make big “Moves” on the Charts

August 31, 2011

She hasn’t done it since 2001 and he is the first to do it in history… Just what am I talking about? If I said she is Christina Aguilera and he is Adam Levine from Maroon 5 would you have a better clue? Now, now get your heads out of the gutter. I’m talking about the fact that Xtina grabs her first # 1 single on Billboard’s Hot 100 since “Lady Marmalade” (performed alongside Pink, Mya, Missy Elliott and Lil Kim) ten years ago with her collaboration with Maroon 5 on “Moves Like Jagger”. It’s the first chart topper on the Hot 100 for the band since “Makes Me Wonder” in 2007…. So, just what exactly is Levine doing that’s so special? Well, he becomes the first singer to land a # 1 song as a member of a band during the same week as a featured solo artist with the song “Stereo Hearts” by Gym Class Heroes featuring The Voice coach rising to # 10. Congrats to them both. With all that said, Katy Perry tumbles from the top to # 5 and Foster the People flies up to # 3. It should be a big race for the top next week between Maroon & Xtina, Foster the People and two flying high singles by Lady Gaga (“You and I”) and Adele (“Someone Like You”) that will have massive sales increases after the MTV Video Music Awards…. In the meantime head to www.billboard.com for more on the singles chart and check out the new top ten below.

Heading over to the album charts, rapper The Game nabs his third chart topper with R.E.D. pushing Jay Z & Kanye West down to the runner-up position… And nabbing her 31st top ten album, Barbra Streisand debuts at # 4 with What Matters Most. She’s had more top ten albums than any woman in history and is third among all artists behind Frank Sinatra (33) and The Rolling Stones (36). Wow. Check out the new top ten below.

The Idol Update~ Recap, Advice and Gaga!

May 6, 2010

On one of the most boring episodes of American Idol ever, we finally said goodbye to the pint-sized wonder Aaron Kelly. Somehow Casey James didn’t even land in the bottom two despite sounding like he was murdering a goat in his song on Tuesday night. Big Mike was the other unfortunate contender who almost saw his Idol dreams shattered. The show also featured some terrible lip synched medleys of Sinatra songs and Harry Connick Jr. tunes, plus a snooze-inducing performance by the mentor himself. At least the fierce Lady Gaga showed up to give us a gothic glam rendition of “Alejandro/Bad Romance”. For my full Limewire Music Blog Recap, click the link below:

And here’s Lady Gaga’s full performance of “Alejandro/Bad Romance” (the live broadcast edited out a couple minutes for time constraints.

Now, next week the Idols take on the music of the movies with mentor Jamie Foxx. Since they are terrible at picking their own songs, I have a few suggestions for our remaining singers. (Oh, and go Crystal!)

Song Suggestions for Movie Week:

Mike: “Say You Say Me” -Lionel Richie (White Knights)
Lee: “Streets of Philadelphia”- Bruce Springsteen (Philadelphia)
Crystal: “I Need to Wake Up” -Melissa Etheridge (An Inconvenient Truth)
Casey: “The Weary Kind” – Ryan Bingham (Crazy Heart)

My IDOL recap~ The Sinatra Snooze Fest

May 5, 2010

Last night American Idol welcomed Harry Connick Jr. and celebrated the songs of Sinatra. It also put me to sleep. And what were the producers thinking letting Connick share the stage with the contestants? Talk about overshadowing! He and his arrangements were the true stars… For my full Limewire Music Blog recap, click here.
