Jodie Foster’s Golden Globe Coming Out Speech

Last night Jodie Foster took home the Cecile B. DeMille Award for career achievement at the Golden Globes, but she also made a big and long-awaited announcement. The Oscar and Globe winner finally kinda came out of the closet. In her rambling yet inspiring, funny but scolding, odd and beautiful speech, Foster spoke about being “out” personally for decades but also declared her right to privacy. I’m thrilled she finally acknowledged what most of us knew but she does make a good point that it really is no one’s business but her own…. And ironically, here I am sharing her business and the whole speech with you. Anywho, I think it’s worth a listen and I’m proud of her. And hey, she’s 50! Check it out below.

“Les Mis” Wins Big at the Golden Globes

Did you hear the people sing? Or at least the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press? You did if you watched tonight’s highly entertaining Golden Globe show where they awarded Les Miserables with a leading 3 awards including Best Picture (Musical/Comedy), Best Actor Musical/Comedy (Hugh Jackman) and Best Supporting Actress (Anne Hathaway). I was thrilled with these incredibly deserving wins for what I consider the Best film of last year…. Other big wins included Daniel Day-Lewis and Jessica Chastain for Drama Actor and Actress, Jennifer Lawrence for Musical/Comedy Actress and Christoph Waltz for Supporting Actor… Ben Affleck continued to stick it to the Academy as he won his second Director trophy this week for Argo which also usurped Lincoln to take home the Best Picture Prize….
On the TV front, Homeland and Game Change won big with three awards while Girls  picked up two…. Another New “Smash” Season 2 Preview!

February 5th marks the highly anticipated second season premiere of the Golden Globe nominated musical dramedy Smash, and I can’t wait. The new season has jettisoned four unlikable characters (good riddens Ellis!) and added a ton of new faces (Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, Emmy winner Sean Hayes, Newsies Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan, Law & Order and Rent vet Jesse L. Martin to name a few). It also has some new show runners and is attempting to correct the uneven yet immensely watchable and fun first season. I, for one, can’t wait. Now, a second preview of the second season has hit the web following NBC’s Smash panel at the TCA this morning. Check it out below and watch Smash Feb. 5th on NBC!

“Lincoln” Leads the Golden Globe Nominees

The Hollywood Foreign Press has spoken and they love them some Lincoln. Steven Spielberg‘s historical drama outpaced the competition this morning pulling in a field best 7 Golden Globe nominations including Picture, Director, Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis), Supporting Actor (Tommy Lee Jones), Supporting Actress (Sally Field), Score and Screenplay. Coming in a surprisingly strong second was Django Unchained with 5 nods including two in Supporting Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz) that really shakes up that race. Also grabbing 5 nods was Argo while Les Miserables, Life of Pi and Silver Linings Playbook all pulled down 4 nominations. The biggest surprise in the acting categories was the inclusion of Nicole Kidman in the Supporting race for the hot mess of a movie The Paperboy. After getting a nom from SAG yesterday, could Kidman be a true Oscar nominee spoiler over snubbed ladies like Samantha Barks, Maggie Smith, Ann Dowd, and Kelly Reilly? We’ll see… Also of note, the small February comedy Salmon Fishing in the Yemen shocked with 3 bids in the Musical/Comedy Category…. Big snubs included Keira Knightley (I think her Oscar hopes are done now), Beasts of the Southern Wild, Ted, Barbra Streisand, Anthony Hopkins, Eddie Redmayne, Robert DeNiro, and Emmanuelle Riva. On the TV side, Game Change dominated with 5 nominations while Homeland picked up 4 despite a snub for Morena Baccarin. Modern Family and Downton Abbey each picked up 3 nods. Surprises included nominations for Smash, Hayden Panitierre (Nashville), Danny Huston (Magic City~ what is that again?) and snubs for The New Normal, Mad Men in the Drama Series category, Parks & Recreation and Happy Endings in the Comedy category…. One fun category will be Lead Actress Comedy/Musical where Globes hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will go head to head. It’s My Big Bold Golden Globe Nomination Predictions 2012!

The past week or so has been a whirlwind of activity in this year’s awards derby and tomorrow will continue that momentum with the announcement of this year’s Golden Globe nominees… Expect to see a lot of the names you’ve heard so far this season like Lincoln, Les Miserables, and Argo. However, you may see some big stars in the race as the Globes love them a star… Does that mean something as crazy as Tom Cruise (Rock of Ages) and Julia Roberts (Mirror Mirror) getting nominated for Lead Acting honors in the Musical or Comedy category? The Artist, The Descendants, Meryl and Madonna win Big at the Golden Globes

Well, Madonna sure did piss off Elton John at tonight’s Golden Globe Awards… No, not because of anything she said, but because she won the award for Best Original song for her gorgeous track from W.E.,”Masterpiece”. It beat Elton’s track from Gnomeo and Juliet and boy, did he have a disgruntled face if I’ve ever seen one. That was just one fun highlight from a night that saw few surprises, but was rather entertaining as a whole. Ricky Gervais returned as host and was quite funny but not as controversial as last year and was only bleeped once I think. Heck, Meryl Streep was bleeped too! Speaking of Streep, she won her 8th Globe for Lead Actress in a Drama for The Iron Lady while Michelle Williams won for Lead Actress in a Musical or Comedy. These wins, along with Viola Davis’s win at the Critics Choice Awards on Thursday, are making it a real horse race for the Best Actress race… Best Actor could be tight between tonight’s two winners as well, George Clooney for Drama and Jean Dujardin for Musical or Comedy. Both of their films won as well with The Descendants taking Drama and The Artist nabbing the trophy for Musical or Comedy. The latter film won the most awards with a third for Best Score…. Christopher Plummer and Octavia Spencer continued their winning runs in the supporting category while Martin Scorsese pulled out a surprise win for Director for Hugo.

On the TV front, Modern Family and Homeland won the series awards while Downton Abbey won TV Movie/Miniseries. There were several acting surprises though, both good (Matt LeBlanc) and bad (Kelsey Grammar~ no offense to his work, but how on Earth did he beat Bryan Cranston and Damian Lewis, argh!!!) Also, Laura Dern pulled out a little bit of a shocker for Lead actress in a Comedy over front runners Zooey Deschanel, Amy Poehler and last year’s winner Laura Linney. George Clooney, The Artist and The Descendants lead the Golden Globe Nominations

It was a good morning for George Clooney as the Oscar and Golden Globe winner heard his name four times when today’s Golden Globe Nominations were announced. Clooney is up for Best Actor (The Descendants) and writing, producing and directing The Ides of March. Conventional wisdom is that he’ll at least take one of those home. Along with The Descendants, also leading the way with a boatload of nominations was The Artist with six bids followed by The Help with five. Will being an Idiot finally put Paul Rudd in the Winners Circle?

Paul Rudd has been turning out hilarious and well rounded comedic turns in films for ages going all the way back to Clueless in 1995. However, he really started to make his mark on the film comedy landscape with movies like Anchorman, Knocked Up, The 40 Year Old Virgin and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Unfortunately, he has never been recognized for his hilarity on the Awards front~ not even the Golden Globes who sadly ignored his fantastic multi-faceted and incredibly funny work in I Love You Man. (That one did get an MTV Award nomination for Best Kiss though. Alas, it lost)… Well, Paul may finally get his due with the upcoming indie comedy Our Idiot Brother that looks like the perfect showcase for Rudd’s lovable baffoonery. In the movie, Rudd plays the ne’er-do-well idealist who always barges into his three sisters’ lives with disastrous results. Playing the sisters are Emily Moritmer (Shutter Island), Zooey Deschanel (500 Days of Summer) and the hilarious Elizabeth Banks (30 Rock, W). The film opens August 26th, but the first trailer has already leaked and it looks pretty darn funny. I’m hoping Rudd will finally get a little notice for his comedy chops at this year’s Golden Globes with this one. What do you think? Check out the trailer below and let me know.

A Hilarious Golden Globes Wrap Up

Ok, I feel a little bad… I haven’t done one of my usual big awards show wrap ups. I’m sorry, this week is crazy. I’m prepping for a short film shoot that I’m acting in and producing, so I’m a bit all over the place… Anywho, I can’t leave ya’ll without some hilarious commentary… I mean who can forget the ridiculous 80′s shoulder pad dresses that were foolishly on display everywhere at the show? Bad fashions and hair  (ahem, Miss Scarlett Johansson) were, unfortunately, all over the place. At least there were great winners (Colin Firth, Annette Bening, Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, Glee, Diane Warren, Jim Parsons, Melissa Leo, etc), wonderful speeches (Colfer and Lynch again), a lot of hotness (Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pine, Zac Efron and Matt Bomer oh my!) and Ricky Gervais going balls to the wall with aggressive hilarity. Things learned watching the 2011 Golden Globes:

1. Nolan Miller must be dressing Hollywood again because I haven’t seen that many shoulder pads, sequins and sparkle since Dynasty’s Moldavian massacre.
2. I’m going to miss Ricky Gervais.
3. Christina Aguilera needs a water pill.
4. Tilda Swinton and Helena Bonham Carter need a reality show together.
5. With wins by Glee, Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, Jim Parsons, Burlesque, Kids Are All Right, Annette Bening, and Scott Rudin, the Globes were so gay (and I mean that in a great way!) they made the Tonys look like a Yes on 8 rally.
6. Natalie Portman’s laugh will haunt your nightmares.
7. No matter what Sandy says, Scarlett Johansson and Sandra Bullock were kept on opposite ends of the telecast for a reason.
8. “Social Network” will probably win an Oscar, as MySpace gets ready to fold. It’s crazy how things change in 5 years … just ask Jennifer Lopez’s career.

Milla Jovovich – There must be another “Resident Evil” coming out this year because that’s the only time you ever see her.

Elizabeth Moss – from Mad Men to the Hillary Clinton biopic.

Christina Hendricks – With her porcelain skin, scarlet hair and huge breasts, Christina managed to find the perfect dress to …blend into the red carpet.

Jennifer Lopez – This is what a triple threat looks like in this economy. Singer/dancer/REALITY SHOW JUDGE!

Diane Warren – What the hell happened to Adam Lambert? I had no clue Diane was in “Party Monster.” Club kid realness!

Trent Reznor – you know Goth is over when even Nine Inch Nails has turned into a frat boy. Head like a a-hole.

Justin Bieber – The original choice to play Annette Bening’s character in “The Kids are All Right.”

Robert Downey Jr – It’s the Globes, not a wedding. Put on a tux.

Annette Bening – She obviously shares a hairstylist with Al Pacino.

Sylvester Stallone – If he keeps it up, his face is going to start looking like Nicole Kidman’s.

Tilda Swinton – Rockin’ the new GapMormon Sister Wives chic … for men.

Al Pacino – Somebody call Jack Kevorkian and put an end to the misery of his endless speech.

Melissa Leo – Unrecognizable. Like Zoe Saldana in “Avatar”, no one will know Melissa is the mom in The Fighter. Where were the sisters???

Robert De Niro – No wonder the Fockers sucks, he’s not funny! Gervais gets all the flack but he’s the one who made a lame racist joke. Deport him!

Megan Fox – Sorry but no matter how many gowns and jewels you throw on “4 AM Angelina Jolie,” she still looks like she should be cooking meth in a San Bernardino Super 8.

Halle Berry – The Curious Case of Halle Berry. How does she do it? Half-Black don’t crack either!

Paul Giamatti – Stole the award from my Jake!

Natalie Portman – Forget the win, the dress and the baby, it’s all about the crazy Portman LAUGH. Awkward! I want it to be my ring tone. And she thanked everyone in her cast except … Winona! Stay away from any nail files, Nat.

Winona Ryder – Was not present to pick up her award for best comedic performance by a sometime actress.

Nicole Kidman – the only bump she hasn’t had smoothed over with Botox, Restalyne and plutonium … her baby bump! So much for the return of her face for “Rabbit Hole.”

Catherine Zeta-Jones (CSJ) – CZJ loves her some Astro Turf chic.

Lisa Chodolenko – Her next film should be SINGLE WHITE LESBIAN … starring Annette Bening.

Sandra Bullock – Bitchin’ bangs compliments of the Westminster Kennel Club. Best in show for sure.

Michael Douglas – Forget Laura Linney, he’s the real winner of the big C.

Mila Kunis – Lil CZJ ..if she were at an ‘80s prom in Queens.

Gabourey Sidibe – Her resort wear dress is available at a Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Anne Hathaway – Never mind her new gig on ‘Glee,’ Anne has a lock on playing Fallon Carrington in that new “Dynasty” movie.

Helena Bonham Carter – Rockin’ Emma Samms’ version of Fallon Carrington hair from ‘The Colbys”.

Michelle Williams – Please don’t pick the daisies!

Brad & Angelina – Every time Angelina applies lip gloss a third world baby gets adopted. She looked great,but it’s too bad by the time they made their way on to the red carpet even I was wearing an emerald dress!
