Last Thursday’s season finale of Glee was a busy one. We saw the Glee Club win Sectionals, Brittany (Heather Morris), leave town for M.I.T., Will (Emmy nominee Matthew Morrison) and Emma (Jayma Mays) finally tie the not, and the identity of “Catfish” was revealed. (Hello I soooo knew it was Unique played by fantastic Glee Project finalist Alex Newell). What we didn’t see was whether or not Rachel (Emmy nominee Lea Michelle) got her part on Broadway in Funny Girl. We did at least get to witness her amazing performance of the Celine Dion hit “To Love You More” at her callback, and that performance is precisely why people should still be watching Glee. Michelle was amazing and the number was just stunning. I have it for you below… But you will have to wait til September for season 5 of Glee and the reveal of Rachel’s fate.
Tomorrow night on Glee, Mr. Shu (Emmy nominee Matthew Morrison) and Miss Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) finally take the plunge in a big wedding episode. However, will they really make it to the altar? With Glee and a Ryan Murphy show, you never know…. I do know there will be some great musical numbers like the cast’s take on Ellie Goulding‘s current single “Anything Can Happen”. And today we get a taste of one full number on this Valentine’s Day themed episode. Check out Jake (Jacob Artist) and Marley (Melissa Benoist) dueling on the Motown classic “You’re All I Need to Get By” below. Then watch Glee tomorrow night on Fox.
Tomorrow night YouTube may have its busiest day ever as the stars have aligned for a one time only incredible live performance of the play 8. This new play written by Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk) discusses the landmark Prop 8 trial regarding gay marriage in California. Emmy winner Rob Reiner (All in the Family) will be directing a who’s who of Hollywood’s best and hottest actors who are all donating their time to bring awareness to this very important cause. Among the big names performing in this wonderful staged reading are Oscar winner George Clooney, Oscar nominees Brad Pitt and John C. Reilly, Emmy winners Yeardley Smith, Christine Lahti and Jane Lynch, Golden Globe winner Chris Colfer, Tony nominee Rory O’Malley (The Book of Mormon), Emmy nominees Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kevin Bacon, Martin Sheen and Matthew Morrison plus Jamie Lee Curtis, James Pickens Jr. and one of the hottest men on Earth, the newly out star of White Collar, Matt Bomer, . This week Gleereturned from the holiday hiatus with one of the best episodes of the season as several couples ruminated about the status of their relationships, and Mr. Shu (Emmy nominee Matthew Morrison) debated asking Miss Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) to marry him. It featured some fantastic covers including the current # 1 smash “We Found Love” by Rihanna. But my two favorites were the girls take on Roberta Flack’s iconic 70′s ballad “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” that will bring you to tears and an anthemic and brilliant version of “Without You” the recent top 5 hit by David Guetta and Usher. As sung by Emmy nominee Lea Michelle, the euphoric dance track became a gorgeous lament for everlasting love and it’s currently sitting at # 1 on the iTunes sales chart. Check out both wonderful songs below, and for more on Glee, head here.
Glee: “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” by Naya Rivera, Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz and Lea Michelle
Well, the title of this week’s Gleemay have been “Asian F”, but I gave last night’s episode a big “A” grade. It was by far the best of the season and incorporated everything we love about the show from the first season. Plus, the spotlight shined on two of our fave glee clubbers who don’t get much attention, Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Mike (Harry Shum Jr.). The former went all diva in her Jennifer Hudson audition song (I shared that with you the other day) and her Dreamgirls and Fame numbers while the latter had his first great singing solo on “Cool” (which unfortunately I cant find any video of yet). We also had some beautifully played moments with Mike (hello Shum has become quite the actor) and his parents. Great stuff. And of course, it culminated in a gorgeous version of Coldplay’s “Fix You” by Mr. Shu (Matthew Morrison) and the kids. Check out the song highlights below.
Rachel (Lea Michelle) & Mercedes “Out Here on my Own” (from Fame)
Glee Club “It’s All Over” (from Dreamgirls)
Brittany (Heather Morris) w/Santana (Naya Rivera)- “Run the World (Girls)” (originally done by Beyonce, and hello, this version actually made me like the song!)
Glee continues to highlight its core characters this week in its much improved third season. (Though, let’s be honest, I was one of the one’s who still loved season 2). Tuesday night, the focus shifts to storylines featuring Mike Chang (the awesome and abtacular Harry Shum Jr.) and Mercedes (Amber Riley). We will meet Mike’s parents and learn more about his upbringing while Mercedes will embark in a full on diva-off with Rachel (Emmy nominee Lea Michelle) as she auditions for the school musical. We will also see what led to Amber’s diva antics and it’s a big showcase for Riley’s incredible talents. Watch her awesome audition number to Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight” below and catch the new episode, which also features a heart-breaking performance of Coldplay‘s “Fix You” by Emmy nominee Matthew Morrison), Tuesday on Fox.
The Emmy winning pop culture phenom Glee has had a really busy summer. Several cast members (Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch) filmed movies. There was a ridiculously successful concert tour and a not so successful concert film doc (Glee Live 3D). Plus, the reality competition show The Glee Project launched and crowned two winners (Samuel and Damian) who both won 7 episode arcs on the show, plus two runners-up (Lindsay and Alex) who grabbed 2 episode arcs… And there was all that drama with Chord Overstreet (Sam) leaving the show. (Don’t fret, he just landed a guest spot on The Middle!), and he appears in a brand new video with the rest of the cast. The Glee kids cover the David Bowie classic “Fashion” to promote Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Outon September 8th. Check out the new video below (which sadly doesn’t feature Naya Rivera or Amber Riley for some strange reason~ I say scheduling conflicts!) and watch the new season of Glee premiering on Sept. 20th on Fox. (And thanks to mjsbigblog for the scoop!)
Sure there were fireworks everywhere and Beyonce had a big special, but my favorite performance from all of the televised Fourth of July specials was a little gift from the Great White Way. Performing at the Capital, three-time Tony nominee Kelli O’Hara (The Pajama Game, South Pacific, The Light in the Piazza) and her former co-star, Emmy nominated Glee star and Tony nominee Matthew Morrison (The Light in the Piazza), sang the iconic ballad “Tonight” from West Side Story. It was simply gorgeous. Check it out below.
If there’s any news on the music charts in 2011, you know it’s about Adele. The British phenom has destroyed all comers this year on the album chart with her massively successful, and may I add utterly incredible, sophomore album 21. So far it has passed 1.7 million in sales and this week it holds on to the # 1 spot on the BillboardTop 200 Albums chart for an 8th week stopping new discs from Christina Perri, The Lonely Island and The Cars. She also retains the top position on the Hot 100 singles chart and the Digital Singles Sales chart with “Rolling in the Deep”. In fact, it’s likely she’ll hold on to these positions next week again. Is there anyone who could stop her? … Well, I’d say the only one who has that power is Lady Gaga. Her new album, Born This Way is due next week and should easily take over the album charts. However, her latest single “The Edge of Glory” just missed the top of the singles chart opening at # 2 on the Digital chart and # 3 on the Hot 100. Now, the single is still brand new and hasn’t even been pushed much at radio. (They’re still working “Judas” and “Born This Way” in their rotations). So, it could still hit the top (and I’d say it deserves to), so stay tuned… in the meantime take a look at the new albums chart below.

Also debuting this week was Gleestar Matthew Morrison’s first record, Matthew Morrison at # 24. It could climb in the weeks ahead as he will perform the new single “Still Got Tonight” on the Glee finale next week… Speaking of Glee, they have six songs on the Hot 100 including a cover of the #1 single “Rolling in the Deep”. That version starts at #29, while their version of internet sensation Rebecca Black’s ”Friday” launches at # 34. (FYI- her original only peaked at # 58)…. This week’s second highest debut after Gaga belongs to Enrique Iglesias’s “Dirty Dancer” featuring Usher & Lil Wayne at # 18. For more on all the charts, head to Billboard here. Last night on a hilarious and surprisingly emotional episode of Glee,we got down to the mystery of Sam (Chord Overstreet) and his family plus we had the return of Emmy winner Kristen Chenowith’s April who was working on a hopeful and hysterical Broadway show about her life with Mr. Shu (Emmy nominee Matthew Morrison). However, the big news of the episode was the Glee club having a Fleetwood Mac attack as they covered several songs from the super group’s iconic album Rumours. Take a look at my three favorites from last night below.
