American Idol Quick Wrap 4/11/12~ The Best Performance Show of the Season!

April 12, 2012

Well, thank goodness Uncle Nigel (Idol Exec. Producer Nigel Lythgoe) listened to the fans and gave us a current theme for once because tonight American Idol took on the songs from this decade and it was fantastic. With only 2 and 1/3 years of material to choose from, it could have gone either way. However, this years incredibly talented top 7 (the best top 7 ever???) did a wonderful job on these modern hits. (Well most of them anyway). It was perhaps the best performance show ever, and definitely of the season. So, just who stood out the most and who fell short? Take a look at my rankings and predictions below.

American Idol Season 11 Top 7 Performance Rankings~ 4/11/12

~ The Great
1. Jessica: our youngest competitor is also perhaps our most savvy. She knocks it out of the park every week no matter the genre (hello shades of Kelly Clarkson). And this week, she does a song that was a minor R&B hit for Jazmine Sullivan, but damn if she didn’t make me run to iTunes and buy her version of “Stuttering” as soon as the show ended. This girl is a superstar, a hit maker, and a brilliant vocalist. And how about that outfit? Girl better win this thing!
2. Joshua: Mantasia got a shout out from Fantasia even before he performed Bruno Mars’ “Runaway Baby, but he certainly earned it. It was another flawless vocal and an incredibly enthusiastic and energetic performance. He is a born entertainer and the best guy in the competition by a mile.
3. Skylar: keeping up her momentum from last week, our country spitfire gave a blazing performance on former Idol Kellie Pickler’s hit ballad from 2010 “Didn’t You Know How Much I Love You”. I dare say it improved on the original. Her emotion and intonation were perfect, and hello, she played the guitar too! Skylar is a fierce competitor, not to mention a great singer. She is soooo getting a record deal regardless of where she places when all is said and done this season.
4. Elise: improving ten fold from last week, Elise delivered a soaring version of Lady Gaga’s top ten smash from last year, “You and I”. While it wasn’t as good as Haley Reinhart’s incredible performance of the song from last year, it was still fantastic. I especially loved the beginning with just Elise and the piano. I sure hope the audience embraces her again and keeps her in the race.

~ the good
5. Hollie: I don’t know what the judges were babbling about because Hollie did a wonderful job on Pink’s Grammy nominated top ten smash from last year “Perfect”. It was her best performance since Whitney Houston week when the finals began. Her vocals sounded wonderful and she had more confidence than she’s had in ages. I just wish she had connected a tad more to the lyrics. All in all, it was a job well done. But was it enough to keep her in the game? I’m not sure.
6. Colton: I’m a little surprised I have him ranked so low because I really liked his performance of Skylar Grey’s “Love the Way You Lie”. (You probably know the Grammy winning # 1 hit version of the song by Rihanna and Eminem by the way). He was vulnerable and gave a really strong spin on the song. In fact, it probably would be a great recording for him. The only drawback is that it became a little forgettable compared to the others tonight.

~ the blah
7. Phillip: oh dear, sweet Southern charmer Phillip… Why oh why must you turn every song into a Dave Matthews track? J Lo was dead on when she said she’d seen that performance before. Um, hello, because he does pretty much the same thing week after week. And his take on Maroon 5′s “Give A Little More” was nothing new and far inferior to the original. If there was any justice, his growling on the show would come to an end tomorrow night. Sorry people, he’s a great guy, but that aint gonna cut it anymore.

The Duets/Group Numbers:

1. Joshua/Jessica/Hollie: despite a little shaky start, this trio sold the crap out of Kelly Clarkson’s recent # 1 smash “Stronger”. Their big powerhouse vocals fit the song well, and I wasn’t sure if Joshua could do a pop anthem. However, he totally did. In fact, I agree with Randy that he may have stolen the number from the ladies.
2. Colton/Skylar: I’m not sure why the judges didn’t love this. It was a wonderful interpretation of Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean’s ACM and CMA Award winning, Grammy nominated, # 1 country smash “Don’t You Wanna Stay”… No, it wasn’t as good as the original, but it was still pretty darn good. (It was also a whole lot better than the version Lauren and Scotty did last year).
3. Elise/Phillip: taking on Gotye & Kimbra’s current # 2 hit “Somebody that I Used to Know”, this duo did an admirable job. But let’s be honest, Elise did all the heavy lifting and totally served Phillip on the number. In his defense, it was out of his wheelhouse, but he didn’t need to look so uncomfortable throughout. That said, I kinda liked their spooky chemistry. Unfortunately, it paled compared to their great collaboration from last week.

Predicitions~

Bottom 3: Hollie, Elise, Phillip (but Skylar and Colton might show up too)
Bottom 2: Hollie, Phillip
Going Home: Hollie (but it really should be Philip)

So, Idol producers, you better have taken notes tonight. Doing a current theme can work wonders for your show! And I bet your Idol download sales are probably soaring this week too…. Now, the question is how will America vote? Despite an improved performance, I still think Hollie is in big trouble. But will we see a surprise elimination instead? Or will the judges finally use their “Save”? Are we heading to a Joshua v. Jessica finale? Can Colton or Skylar break into the top two? Did Phillip finally make a misstep that could cost him big? Watch the results show tomorrow night and find out. And let me know your thoughts below.

My SYTYCD Performance Finale Quick Wrap 8/10/11

August 11, 2011

Ok, I don’t know about you but last night’s So You Think You Can Dance performance finale was arguably the worst finale in the history of the show. For a season that could be described as lackluster at best, it was a sad end despite the quite capable final four. I don’t blame the dancers (Melanie, Marko, Sasha, and Tadd) at all because they gave their all. I lay the blame more at the producers and choreographers feet for poor choices of dance styles and uninspired routines. With that said, we went into the finale under the guise that Melanie was easily going to win it all, and I still think she will. However, Sasha and Marko put up a fierce battle and may just upset. The question for me though, is which of them will grab the runner-up spot…. So, let’s take a look at my final SYTYCD performance rankings and predictions for a better idea…

SYTYCD Finale Performance Rankings:
~ the Good
1. Marko & Lauren (contemporary): now that was a routine! Tassandra’s choreography was the most interesting and exciting of the night and required Marko and the amazing Lauren (wow she has grown since winning last year) to immerse themselves physically and emotionally. What a connection they had to each other and the material. Simply astounding.
2. Melanie & Robert (contemporary): thank goodness for Stacy Tookey who has been one of the few consistent choreographers this season as she delivered another gorgeous routine performed with typical excellence by Melanie and my fave from last season Robert. It was fluid, beautiful and moving.
3. Sasha & Mark: say what you will about Sonya, but when she’s on… she’s on! And tonight this was some of her best work to date. It was powerful, explosive, suspenseful and sexy and Sasha nailed it. It helps that Mark is possibly the sexiest (and one of the most talented) alumni in the show’s history.
4. Melanie & Tadd (jazz): well that was all kinds of hot, sexy and fun. It was truly a breath of fresh air on a night that was so lacking in positive energy. Melanie owned every second of this piece and Tadd was almost up to her level on his best performance of the night.
5. Melanie & Sasha (contemporary): Stacy Tookey’s other lovely piece had our two ladies enacting their fantasies of breaking out of their prison-like housewife lives, and both were wonderful. I loved their camaraderie and tremendous technique. I would say Melanie nailed the acting performance of the routine a notch better than Sasha though.
~the Decent
6. Sasha & Marko (Broadway): in this adorable number from Spencer Liff, Sasha & Marko had surprisingly fun and sexy chemistry. It was a little light as a whole, but still pretty delightful to watch.
7. Tadd & Joshua (hip hop): sure Joshua hit it harder than Tadd in this number, but Tadd has charisma for days and he shined as best as he could here. I just wish it was a more engaging piece.
~the Bad
8. Marko & Melanie (Disco): well, if that was the only disco piece we’ve had all season, I’m glad… because it was not good. It felt heavy and slow and our power couple looked uncomfortable throughout it. They also had trouble getting in and out of the lifts and didn’t seem like they enjoyed it one bit.
9. Sasha & Tadd (cha cha): well, Sasha looked hot in the number… um, that’s all the positive I have for you. This choreography from moonlighting Dancing with the Stars stud Mark Ballas was too ambitious and disconnected fort he duo and did them no favors. It highlighted their weaknesses within the genre unfortunately and wasn’t all that fun to watch either.
9. Tadd & Marko (gumboot stepping): um, I wanted to step right out of the room watching this… It was just bad on all levels. Sorry kids.

Solos~
1. Melanie (she’s just so good, it makes you want to cry)
2. Sasha (nice emotional intensity and beautiful movement)
3. Marko (nice technique but rather scattered and a little desperate)
4. Tadd (fun but slight)

Predictions…
1. Melanie
2. Sasha
3. Marko
4. Tadd

So, I’m calling Melanie the winner, as I think most of us did back when they announced the Top 20. Rarely has the best technical dancer won (perhaps only in season 1 with Nick), but Melanie was also had a vibrant and infectious personality worth rooting for. So, put those things together and you have this season’s victor. I’m also excited that I think we’ll have our first all female final two (and a very deserving final two). Plus, kudos to Marko for a wonderful season and to Tadd for defying everyone’s expectations and making it so far. I’m thrilled for these four dancers and their future careers. I just wish it had been a better season as a whole.
Now, I want to know what you think… Who’s gonna win? Who was your fave? Were you as unimpressed with last night as I was? And how useless was guest judge Katie Holmes? Oh, and is it me or did Uncle Nigel take a little trek to Mary’s botox doc before last night show? … Let me know below.

And here’s my favorite number from the night~ Marko & Lauren’s contemporary piece.

My all New SYTYCD Buzz Rankings~ the Top 8!

July 22, 2011

Last night, the field of finalists on So You Think You Can Dance was narrowed to eight as Nigel and co dismissed the delightful Mitchell and the sweet if unmemorable Clarice. It wasn’t too big of a surprise especially since the judges still had the power. If it was solely up to viewer votes, I think Jordin may have exited in Clarice’s place especially after that defeated solo. So, just where does she land on my list of new SYTYCD buzz rankings? I think you can guess… Take a look at my all new totally unscientific buzz rankings below.

So You Think You Can Dance Buzz Top 8 Buzz Rankings:
1. Melanie: holding tight in the top spot is the gorgeous dancer and gorgeous girl Melanie. She truly lives and breathes each performance regardless of the style and has a wonderful connection with her partners. She remains the one to beat. (last week~ 1)
2. Sasha: I almost ranked Sasha first due to the incredible fierceness and brilliance of her hip hop routine from Wednesday. However, she still seems to lack a little humility and that may hurt her when it comes to the finals. But mark my words, she will be in the finals alongside Melanie, Marko and ??? (lw~ 4)
3. Marko: he’s still the top guy but got outshone by the ladies a little this week. Regardless, he remains a consummate pro and who knew he could shake his hips so well in that awesome samba? And he proved he can have some sexy chemistry with someone other than Melanie too. (lw~ 2)
4. Tadd: he totally outdanced his All Star Comfort this week and he’s incredibly likable and fun to watch. Whether in his own genre or not, he has performed seamlessly and somewhat effortlessly. Is he a spoiler for the title? (lw~ 3)
5. Caitlyn: with an incredibly sexy tango, this week Caitlyn finally became a star. She’s always been talented and done great work, but she finally connected to her dance and her partner, the amazing Pasha. Will she be able to steal a spot in the final four too? (lw~ 6)
6. Jess: he’s been sailing along smoothly for the past few weeks and continues to grow as a performer. As long as he keeps the mugging to a minimum (thank Neil Patrick Harris!) and delivers honest, emotional performances, he might grab that final four spot as well. (lw~ 5)
7. Ricky: well, damn if he hasn’t done the best solos of the season and last night when in danger again, he just killed it. I don’t know what America has against the guy because he’s got a wonderful spirit and is a brilliant dancer. He just needs one great routine to rise above. Will it happen next week? (lw~ 9)
8. Jordan: the girl who’s obsessed with devlope’s (I have no idea if that’s how you spell it, but you know what I’m talking about) barely escaped elimination last night. However, I think this may be her last stand. She’s running on fumes at this point. (lw~8)

And then there were eight, but they’re all great! Ok, stupid rhymes aside, it’s getting interesting on SYTYCD. Can any of them beat Melanie to the crown? And will there be a surprise competitor or two in the final four? Stay tuned and tell me who you think has the buzz below.

So You Think You Can Dance Results Rant and Power Rankings 6/24/11

June 24, 2011

It was the first So You Think You Can Dance elimination of the season and I was already screaming obscenities at the tv, Nigel and America. How on Earth could they eliminate the most charismatic entertaining and awesome dancer of the entire season, tapper Nick Young? I was seriously a bit of a bawling mess. NEVER has that happened to me this early in the game. But never has such an atrocity happened so early in the season either. What went wrong? Well first, America should be ashamed for not voting for this fantastic and very well-rounded dancer. Second, he was screwed by being paired with the very talented~ at Ballroom and not much else~ Iveta who looked like she was nearing 50 and that doesn’t translate to votes on this young skewing show. Third, they were given Bollywood which pretty much everyone screws up until the top ten. Fourth, they were one of only two couples totally out of their genre (the other couple, Missy and Wadi, were eliminated too). Fifth, the judges made a big mistake not eliminating anyone last week when they could’ve let lesser dancers go and saved better ones tonight. And lastly, Nigel and the judges let go of their senses and saved Ricky (who shouldn’t have been in the bottom either) after his great solo despite his lack of personality and potential in other genres. I do hope Ricky lasts much longer than the atrocious Robert and the grating Jess who both should’ve gone home instead. Ugh, it’s so infuriating, but that’s reality competition tv for ya… So we said bye to Nick (swoon), Wadi (bummed cuz his skills were never really showcased), Missy (don’t really care about that one, sorry) and Iveta (who I would’ve picked to stay over the boring Ryan). And now, we’re left with a top 16…. Just who has the power to make it to the top ten and dance with the All-Stars? Take a look at my new totally unscientific So You Think You Can Dance Power Rankings below.

SYTYCD Power Rankings 6/24/11:

1. Sasha: she stole the show on Wed. night with her amazing hip hop number showcasing her fierce moves and deep emotion. And you know we love this feisty girl who is also representing her sister who just missed a spot on the show.
2. Melanie: she’s part of the cute contemporary jazz power couple Marko & Melanie and is goshdarnit adorable. Oh and super talented too.
3. Marko: he’s the guy with the bullet in his shoulder and some skills on the dance floor (and the other half of said power couple).
4. Caitlyn: she made it through all by herself with a gorgeous contemporary number in week one and when paired with Mitchell this week, she soared again and even got a cut on the nose during her beautiful piece.
5. Tadd: the bboy to beat and a good bet to make the top four, Tadd outdances his partner week in and week out, has a great personality (hey he’s an obsessive compulsive packer!) and has adapted to other genres quite well.
6. Mitchell: he only had this week to catch up to his partner or he’d be higher on the list, but his dancing is flawless. And he’s great with a funny soundbite and some, um, interesting fashion choices.
7. Ashley: the bubbliest girl on the show simply slayed that jail cell jazz Broadway piece this week and is a dark horse for the title. And she got no pre-top 20 airtime, so good for her for letting her dancing speak for her. I just kinda love her!
8. Miranda: she’s been saddled with the worst dancer of the entire top 20 (Robert), but she has persevered and seems to be on the way to being a judge favorite.
9. Alexander: his partner Sasha steals the spotlight from him each week, but his technique is simply astounding and he’s growing in charisma.
10. Jordan: she needs to get over the “I’m a sex kitten” bimbo thing because she’s a really powerful and exquisite dancer. She just seems to be having a difficulty with her likability.
11. Ricky: his solo alone saved him last night and it also pushes him way up this list over several other dancers who should’ve been in the bottom three in the first place.
12. Chris: he’s a cool cat and had a great number this week with Ashley, but he’s clearly the least trained of the dancers and has a lot of work to do to stay on the level.
13. Jess: the Broadway boy is becoming more and more a love him/hate him contender with his obnoxious faces and seeming arrogance. That said, he is a very good dancer and his Broadway style is brilliant.
14. Robert: I really don’t know why he even made the top 20. I guess people like that fact that he says “whoooo” a lot. He is partnered with Miranda who’s all kinds of good so that keeps him from the bottom of the list.
15. Ryan: she was saved by the judges just barely this week and I see why. She doesn’t connect to the material or her partner and has no personality. She’s a good dancer, but unfortunately, very forgettable.
16. Clarice: speaking of forgettable, Clarice defines it.

Well, there they are… the top 16 dancers left in season 8. What do you think of their placements? And who has the power to take the title? Plus, how much do you want to give Nigel a scolding after he eliminated the amazing Nick? Sound off below.

And here’s one more taste of Nick’s fabulous dancing before I go.

So You Think You Can Dance Quick Wrap 6/15/11~ That’s the way to start the season!

June 16, 2011

If you want to know how to start a reality competition show right, just watch So You Think You Can Dance. Entering its 8th season, SYTYCD is arguably the best reality competition show on the air. It has the best host in the sexy, funny and caring Cat Deeley. It has a great panel of judges (and revolving guest judges) that you can relate to, love, hate and cheer in equal measure. It has amazing choreography from a diverse group of Emmy worthy artists. And most importantly it has sick amounts of fantastic talent. All of that was on display last night as the top 20 took to the stage for the first competition night. Practically every number was great which makes predicting who will be sent home incredibly difficult. But I will do my best~ so let’s get to my quick wrap SYTYCD rankings for week one.

SYTYCD Performance Rankings 6/15/11:
1. Melanie & Marko (Contemporary): hello, we have our first power couple of the season. These two were simply brilliant in this gorgeous and moving piece by Travis Wall. They also have the best chemistry of the couples right off the bat, along with great technique and innate ability to tell a story and make us feel. Just stunning.
2. Iveta & Nick (Quickstep): my fave dancer, Nick, held his own with ballroom queen Iveta on this great number that got a standing ovation (like Melanie and Marko) from the judges and the audience. Simply wonderful.
3. Caitlyn (Jazz):  Caitlyn’s partner, poor Mitchell, was injured, so my fave from season 7, Robert, stepped in to help out the incredibly sexy and charismatic Caitlyn on this awesome Sonya jazz piece. Loved it. Confession time~ I did have to watch it again because I was a little distracted by Robert the first time. Lol
4. Sasha & Alexander (Contemporary): like a fierce fireball, Sasha tore through this great Travis Wall number cementing her position as a force to be reckoned with this season. Alex was pretty great too by the way.
5. Clarice & Jess (Broadway): talk about being in your element… Jess was LIVING in his element in this incredibly entertaining Broadway number that spoke to all of his strengths. Clarice did fine but was rather outshone by lil Jess.
6. Jordan & Tadd (African Jazz): showcasing great moves, strong chemistry and an explosive presence, these two delivered a great number that should keep them safe despite having performed first.
7. Ryan & Ricky (Lyrical Hip Hop): with echoes of the amazing “Bleeding Love” number from season 4, Ryan and Ricky were very good on this great fusion of contemporary and hip hop. But was it memorable enough to keep them out of danger? I’m not sure.
8. Missy & Wadi (Jazz): if it weren’t for the flying acrobatics of parkour hip hop expert Wadi, this number would’ve sent these two to the bottom of the list. Don’t get me wrong, they performed it very well but it just lacked that certain something in my eyes.
9. Miranda & Robert (Latin Jive): ok, I don’t know what the judges and the studio audience were smoking with their ridiculous praise for this fun, but flat number. It was serviceable but rather lackluster compared to the great pieces from the rest of the night. Nigel was right though~ Robert has a love him/hate him personality. Currently, he annoys me…. But maybe you love him. He is talented but this Urkel 2.0 may wear out his welcome quickly and poor Miranda (who is she again?) may suffer the consequences.
10. Ashley & Chris (Hip Hop): now these two are incredibly likable people and good dancers… Unfortunately, this was such a blah number that their personalities couldn’t save it. I think they will have to dance for their lives for sure tonight…

Predictions~
Well, MItchell (Caitlyn’s partner) is automatically in danger because he couldn’t dance so there will be four guys in jeopardy along with three girls.
Couples in the bottom 3: Ashley & Chris, Miranda & Robert, Ryan & Ricky (I think Wadi saved Missy with his cool skills….)
Going home: injured Mitchell and Miranda

Ok, there you have it~ my first completely clueless prediction of the season. Since everybody was pretty darn good, it’s almost anyone’s guess as to who is in the bottom three and going home. But I did my best. Now, what do you think? Is your favorite in jeopardy? … And did you love Emmy winning actress and former Broadway star Megan Mullally as a guest judge as much as I did? (Hello, she has a great vocabulary and passion for the show too!) … Do you think Travis will get an Emmy nom for his “statue” piece? … and are he and Cat using the same hair colorist~ they’re so blonde! … Oh and did Cat look hot or what with her “I just had sex in my car” hairdo and black slip dress?! … Sound off below and watch the results tonight on Fox.

And here’s the best number from last night~ Marko & Melanie:

Ranking the 2011 American Idol Top 24

March 1, 2011

Last week, American Idol finally narrowed it down to the top 24 contestants, and I for one, am pretty impressed with most of them. Not only has this season been the best in years (hello, J. Lo and Steven Tyler are simply awesome), but it seems like this is the best batch of talent since at least season 5. Hopefully, they will hold up well with the live shows and this week’s semi-finals. After the guys perform on Tuesday and the girls on Wednesday, the top 10 finalists will be announced. Also, if rumours are to be believed (and I believe this one), the judges will each be picking a “wild card” contestant to make it a top 13. I love it! So, with all of that weighing in the balance, I’m here to give America and the judges some insight. This is my first big Idol post of the season and I’m ready to rank the contenders. Take a look at my first IDOL POWER LIST of 2011 and watch their performances this week to see if they hold up to my rankings.

The American Idol Power List for the Top 24 going into the Semi-finals…

1. Lauren Alaina: she’s all but been hailed the next Kelly Clarkson by Exec. Producer Nigel Lythgoe and they’ve certainly shoved her down our throats with tons of airtime. But goshdarnit, she really is that good. She’s fun, she’s young (16), cute and has a set of killer pipes.
2. Jacob Lusk: All hail the voice of the season. This emotional and excitable 23 yr old from Compton, CA took us to church each time he sang and he could end up being the first male African-American winner since Ruuuuuuben.
3. Julie Zorilla: this gorgeous 19-year-old who escaped violence in Columbia as a child has shown a divine flair for fashion AND singing. She just needs to connect to her material a little more and we could be seeing our first Latina American Idol.
4. Robbie Rozen: this adorable and incredibly talented 16-year-old is bound to grab the Archuleta vote, but I think he could cross over to all ages judging from his genre spanning auditions. He’s definitely one to watch.
5. Casey Abrams: he’s the musician’s musician and rockin’ bluesy singer who has tons of talent and got lots of airtime. He’s an individual and seems like an audience favorite… but then so was that mess Taylor Hicks (oh wait, no matter how much, I couldn’t stand him, he still won… drat!)
6. Ashton Jones: Is she this season’s Tamyra or Syesha? Well, she’s a gorgeous girl with a great voice and star quality. However, will she be overshadowed in the end?
7. Stefano Langoe: he’s the guy who survived that horrific car crash and oozes energy and personality for days. He’s also cute and has a great voice. Dang, he can sing high too!
8. Brett Loewenstern: he seems bound to be divisive to audiences, but he’s completely original and has a great quality in his unique voice and song interpretation…. And he’s totally here to tell you “it gets better”.
9. Tim Halperin: he’s the looker who really stepped up in Vegas with his duet with Zorilla. He’s also a skilled pianist and could be a dark horse.
10. Karen Rodriguez: she’s the Latina who worshiped J Lo and wowed on each audition. She’s like Gloria Estefan with a better voice!
11. James Durbin: he’s the one who can wail like Adam Lambert who has a baby, a girlfriend and overcomes his Tourette’s thru song. However, he also seems to wail as opposed to emote in his performances and he came off a bit unlikable at times during the group episodes.
12 .Paul McDonald: he’s the guy with the great gravelly Joe Cocker voice with cool style and his own original material.
13. Pia Toscano: all we really know is she can sing great and she’s gorgeous, but hey, that’s a great start
14. Lauren Turner: she’s the big haired belter who could be the next Anne Wilson .. or the next Gina Glockson depending on song choice and if her personality pops or poops.
15. Kendra Chantelle: she’s the beautiful blonde who has had little air time, but did show her strong pipes and potential in snippets, especially in her duet in Vegas week with McDonald.
16. Thia Megia: she’s the 15-year-old Filipina with the sexy big husky voice, but she is also pretty devoid of personality so far…
17. Rachel Zevita: she’s the NYer who almost made it in season 6. She has a strong voice, but for some reason, I’m afraid she could become really annoying and grating. Loved that she sang Lady Gaga’s “Speechless” in her final audition, but a little worried that she may just be Gaga-lite.
18. Scotty McCreery: he’s the 16-year-old country boy with the super low voice. He’s likable but is he a one-trick pony? (ahem, cut up “Baby lock them doors, turn out the lights…”)
19. Naima Adedapo: she’s the mama who cleaned toilets at a musical festival who has serious style and a good back story, but I’ve yet to be wowed by her talent…
20. Jovany Barreto: he’s the hunk with the 8 pack, the high tenor and a penchant for Spanglish songs… but is it me or does he seem like just a prettier wannabe Jon Secada?
21. Jordan Dorsey: the attractive vocal teacher from Louisiana who got the “villain edit” during Hollywood week has a lot of bad mojo to erase. Luckily, he has talent and looks. We’ll see if his ego doesn’t destroy his more positive attributes…
22. Ta-Tynisa Wilson: the pretty girl who was shown messing up in Hollywood several times made up for it in her final “hanger” audition with Toni Braxton’s “Un-break My Heart”, but is it too little too late?
23. Clint Jun Gamboa: the bespectacled karaoke singer has a big bold voice and can seriously sing. However, he too got a “villain” edit in the Hwood rounds and let’s be honest, he’s kinda really annoying so far.
24. Haley Reinhart: so far, I pick her as the girl who’s voice is going to bug the crap out of me as long as she’s in the competition. That whole “affected” thing is so 2010… and um, doesn’t get you far on the Idol stage (hello~ 90 % of the female contestants from last season).
