GLEE Preview~ “You’re All I Need to Get By”

February 13, 2013

Tomorrow night on Glee, Mr. Shu (Emmy nominee Matthew Morrison) and Miss Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) finally take the plunge in a big wedding episode. However, will they really make it to the altar? With Glee and a Ryan Murphy show, you never know…. I do know there will be some great musical numbers like the cast’s take on Ellie Goulding‘s current single “Anything Can Happen”. And today we get a taste of one full number on this Valentine’s Day themed episode. Check out Jake (Jacob Artist) and Marley (Melissa Benoist) dueling on the Motown classic “You’re All I Need to Get By” below. Then watch Glee tomorrow night on Fox.

Watch the Hysterical Pilot for NBC’s “The New Normal” Now!

August 29, 2012

I just got lucky… No, not like that silly. I mean that I just got lucky because the new show I have been looking forward to most of the fall season, NBC’s The New Normal is now available online. NBC and Hulu are both streaming the pilot for this hysterical show which follows a loving and successful gay couple David (The Hangover’s Justin Bartha) and Bryan (the Tony nominated star of The Book of Mormon Andrew Rannells) as they attempt to have a baby with a charming surrogate Goldie (the very appealing Georgia King) who already has her own smarter-than-all-the-adults tween Shania (Bebe Wood) and a meddlesome and racist/homophobic/all-around offensively hilarious grandmother Nana (Tony award winner for The Normal Heart and current Modern Family Emmy nominee Ellen Barkin). Glee and The Real Housewives‘ NeNe Leakes costars as Brian’s sassy assistant in this sitcom from the man who created Glee himself Ryan Murphy. It has that show’s signature biting humor and heart and the ensemble is fantastic. The show fires on all cylinders and I think Rannells is going to break out big. Also, watch for Barkin to become an awards magnet for this role that should be utterly atrocious but in her incredibly skilled hands becomes somehow likable despite the funny and foul things flying out of her mouth. The show will be paired with Matthew Perry’s amiable new comedy Go On on Tuesday nights on NBC starting September 11th. I can’t recommend it anymore… In fact, Tuesday night is gonna be a hot bed of hilarious comedy with New Girl, The Mindy Project, Happy Endings, Go On, Raising Hope, Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23 and The New Normal. My dvr will be in overdrive, but I’m pushing The New Normal to the front of the pack and declaring it the fall’s best new sitcom…. And now you can check it out below or on NBC.com and hulu. Take a look, laugh your tushy off and enjoy The New Normal.

The Glee Project Finale~ They got it Wrong… Again!

August 15, 2012

Last year, the inaugural season of Oxygen’s fantastic reality talent show The Glee Project crowned dual winners, Damian McGinty and Samuel Larson who won roles on Glee. And that was a double mistake. Both should’ve lost to the immensely talented Lindsay Pearce. All three landed on Glee with McGinty showing up as the fun but forgettable Rory and Larson as the totally annoying and useless Joe while Pearce had two small but awesome guest spots…
Well, this summer the reality show was back with a fierce competition where the final 6 (Michael, Lily Mae, Shanna, Blake, Ali and Aylin) all would’ve made better winners than last year’s. And unfortunately, with tonight’s finale, it looks like Ryan Murphy and crew messed up and picked the wrong winner again. That’s no offense to Blake Jenner who stole the crown. The guy can act and sing and has lots of star potential, but he’s not really one to root for. That role belongs to wheel bound Broadway diva Ali Stroker who stole your heart week in and week out with her big vocals, beautiful smile and infectious attitude. She is everything that Glee strives to be: showcasing someone who triumphs over adversity by being themselves… and she’s incredibly talented… I would even have preferred that fireball Aylin Bayramoglu winning over Blake as she represents something we haven’t really seen on tv, a Muslim girl who defies tradition. And her voice was pretty amazing too… It’s a shame Blake won when you know the guy will have a career outside of Glee and probably didn’t really need to win the show to succeed in the biz. I don’t know if I can say the same for Ali and Aylin who will have to continue to fight prejudice and narrow-minded people to have their talents showcased for the world. I sure hope Ryan Murphy and co. throw them a bone with a few episodes next season. I guarantee the fans will love them and root for their success even more than they will think Blake is cute.
While I’m sad Ali didn’t land the Gold Medal on Glee, I’m thrilled that The Glee Project gave me a Glee fix over the summer. I will miss it and hope it returns next year. Heck , I hope Emmy voters remember it next year too… .In the meantime, Glee returns in mid September on Fox with big guest stars like Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson and Blake will debut later in the fall. Til then, enjoy the final Glee Project group video below.

NBC goes for Laughs with its new 2012 Fall Schedule

May 14, 2012

NBC has been mired in the ratings cellar for several years now, but with their new fall schedule, they are hoping to return to their 80′s and 90′s glory days. How are they gonna do it? Well, apparently, they are hoping to become the kings of comedy again. They did it with shows like Cheers, Seinfeld, Friends, Frasier, The Cosby Show, The Golden Girls and Will & Grace. So, why not make a big play with 4 nights of comedy programming, Tuesday thru Friday? That’s what they will be doing by bringing back Community, Up All Night, Whitney (what?!) and 30 Rock  (in its final season) for 13 more episodes plus full seasons of The Office (with all the stars returning except for James Spader and Mindy Kaling who has a new sitcom on Fox) and Parks and Recreation. They will add 4 more comedies to the mix: Go On starring Matthew Perry as a sportscaster, Animal Kingdom with Justin Kirk as a House-like veterinarian, Guys with Kids from producer Jimmy Fallon and The New Normal with Justin Bartha and Tony nominee Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon) as a gay couple who enlist a surrogate to help them start a family. The latter comedy is from Ryan Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story) and costars Tony winner Ellen Barkin and looks like a riot. I can’t wait…
The network also has 3 more comedies for mid-season with Save Me starring Anne Heche, 1600 Penn (a comedy set at the White House) and Next Caller about a foul-mouthed DJ played by Dane Cook. Dramas joining later in the year are Infamous and Hannibal (yes, that’s about Hannibal Lecter!)
Also on the drama side, NBC has added Revolution, Do No Harm and Chicago Fire. Revolution will follow a new fall edition of The Voice which will now air twice a year essentially turning it into a singing version of Dancing with the Stars or Survivor, and thus further reducing the likelihood of ever producing a true music hit maker. (But it can still get good rating for the network that has such a low bar)… Also returning will be the musical drama Smash at midseason (so it can air 18 episodes uninterrupted) along with a newly reconfigured The Biggest Loser.... Cancelled shows include Awake, The Firm, Harry’s Law (boo!!!), Are You There Chelsea, Bent and Best Friends Forever. For more on the new shows and clips of them, head to TV Line here. Now this is a “Horror” Story I can Get Behind

August 19, 2011

As any of my friends can tell you, I am no fan of horror movies. Because, well, they scare me! lol … And unless they’re brilliant ala The Silence of the Lambs (which was really more a thriller, let’s be honest) or funny scary ala Scream, I have no interest in them… However, there is one upcoming “Horror” project that I will take a peek at.
It’s the new FX series American Horror Story from Glee and Nip/Tuck creator Ryan Murphy. The dramatic thriller chronicles the lives of a therapist (Emmy nominee Dylan McDermott of The Practice) and his wife (Emmy nominee Connie Britton from Friday Night Lights) as they move to a new town and a possibly haunted new house following his affair. The show also stars Emmy nominee & Golden Globe winner Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under), Tony winner Denis O’ Hare (recently seen as a dastardly vampire ripping out spleens on True Blood) and two-time Oscar winner Jessica Lange and it looks spooky good. For more on the show, click here and check out the first trailer for the series which premieres on FX in October.

Highlights from Glee’s Silly Love Songs!

February 9, 2011

Last night, Glee celebrated Valentine’s Day with one of its best show’s of the season. It was a million times better than their Super Bowl extravaganza. It was funny, moving and it even made sense! Unsurprisingly, it was written by Emmy winning Glee co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy. As usual, there were some great performances and here are three of them. Check it out and watch Glee Tuesdays on Fox!

Gleeking out at Glee Live!

May 23, 2010

Last night, I gleeked out to no end. I was lucky enough to attend the GLEE LIVE tour at the Gibson Amphitheatre in LA with my friends Anil, Jim and Patrick and big props to Patrick because he got us backstage too! It was an incredible night with amazing performances, great music and great friends. It was also one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to in my entire life, and I go to a lot of concerts. Aside from the incredible talent of the performers, one thing that made the night so magical was the wonderfully jubilant audience. I haven’t been to a show in LA with that kind of positive energy in years, if ever. Nobody had that “impress me” vibe that permeates big shows here in lala land. Instead, it was a communal vibe of love and fun that afforded the performers an opportunity to enjoy themselves as much as the audience on their final night in LA.
The show opened with the cast doing their signature song, Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” and featured most of their big hits. Some highlights included the cast numbers “Jump”, “Somebody to Love”, “Like a Prayer” and a very moving “True Colors” with a lovely solo by Jenna Ushkowitz who plays Tina. We also got a taste of next week’s episode with the ridiculously awesome performance of “Bad Romance” with Tina, Santana, Rachel, Kurt, Mercedes, Mike Wang, and Brittany all in Gaga garb. Sooooo good. Speaking of Brittany, Heather Morris, was pretty much the star of the show. She came out with several of her hilarious asides, in character as Brittany, that were gut bustingly funny and she tore up the show with amazing dancing. She was truly incredible and on stage more than anyone else. You couldn’t take your eyes off her. I mean damn!
We also got a ton of great solos and duets. Amber Riley (Mercedes) and Naya Rivera (Santana) gave a sassy spin to “The Boy is Mine” while Mark Sailing (Puck), Rivera and Riley served up a hot threesome on “The Lady is a Tramp.” Lea Michelle (Rachel) and Cory Monteith (Finn) gave us a taste of the season finale with Journey’s “Faithfully” and Lea and Chris Colfer (Kurt) delivered a beautiful and emotional resonant take on “Defying Gravity” that had me and Lea in tears. That was easily the highlight of the show.
But there was more, Lea showcased her amazing vocals on “Don’t Rain on My Parade” and Amber Riley gave a ferocious spin to “Bust Your Windows”. Seriously, so many numbers, it was just ridiculous! We even got a special guest performance by the amazingly talented Tony nominee Jonathan Groff (Jesse) who joined Lea for a gorgeous version of Hello”. I was be side myself.
Once the curtain closed on this great show, that also featured hilarious video clips featuring Jane Lynch (Sue Sylvester) and Matthew Morrison (Will Schuester), we headed backstage and gleeked out even further. We were fortunate enough to meet the delightful Ushkowitz and the teen dream Monteith who was loving the attention. We also met Jonathan Groff who couldn’t have been nicer and I think fancied me. Ha, ok, maybe I was drinkin’ a lil too much Glee juice all night (ahem, diet coke), but I’m stickin’ to it! Finally we met Glee creator/writer/producer/director Ryan Murphy (also of Popular and Nip/Tuck fame) who was so gracious, intelligent and welcoming. Seriously, one of the best nights of my life. Feel free to giggle at me if you must, but I know you’re jealous. Enjoy the pictures I’ve posted from the show and backstage. Email me if you want to see more and watch Glee Tuesdays on Fox.

And here are some clips of the show….
