He won the worst season to date of American Idol over the supremely more talented-but less commercial (and arguably less likable) Crystal Bowersox. However, Lee Dewyze is determined to make good on his debut album Live It Up. The usually nervous and dour singer is even smiling on the new album cover which will drop Nov. 16 and feature the leadoff single “Live It Up” which debuts on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show Oct. 13. Hopefully Lee’s soulful pop rock album will fare better than last year’s winner Kris Allen whose debut barely cracked the 300,000 mark that’s even less than that hack Taylor Hicks! (At least Kris had a hit song with “Live Like You’re Dying”.) The question is whether runner-up Crystal can pull an Adam Lambert and outshine her competitor in sales, airplay and on the charts. (His debut has sold almost 800,000 copies and yielded two big hit songs the platinum seller “Whataya Want From Me” and the gold certified current single “IF I Had You”). I have a feeling both Crystal and Lee may struggle in the current marketplace though. We’ll see when Lee’s album hits stores and Crystal’s arrives in late ’10/early ’11. Here’s hoping Lee gives us something on the new album as rousing as his cover of “The Boxer” below to insure his success.
