So, if you watched last night’s episode of The Voice, you saw the show’s best and most talented contestant, Amanda Brown, get eliminated. It was horrifying and upsetting and another in a long line of singing show voting injustices. Following in the footsteps of singers like American Idol’s Jennifer Hudson, Carly Smithson, Pia Toscano and Chris Daughtry getting the boot before they should’ve, Brown was sent packing. With that news, I am sending the show packing. If you read my recap from Tuesday night, I was very dissatisfied with the show as it devolved into an overproduced X-Factor type mess (much like its first two seasons). So, with the show’s continuing decline and the wonderfully talented Ms. Brown no longer in the running, I am done with The Voice. There’s really no reason to watch for me anymore. So, sorry but my recaps are done for this season. We’ll see if I return in the Spring when there will be some new judging blood in Usher and Shakira (replacing the delightful but derivative Cee Lo and the incredibly rude, egotistical and annoying Christina Aguilera). Until then, I would recommend mjsbigblog for good recaps and news on the show…. And I’ll just look positively towards a new season of the only talent show that actually produces successful pop stars and remains the gold standard, American Idol.

December 5, 2012Billboard Ranks Beyonce’s Biggest Hits!
September 2, 2011
As many of you readers know, I love a countdown. I love to see the rankings of movies at the box office, songs on the radio, tv shows in the ratings, and of course I love to do my own lists. I think I got this proclivity as a young child reading the Billboard charts and listening to American Top 40 every Sunday morning. So, I’m still obsessed with the Billboard charts (hence my weekly Wednesday postings) and they have just done a special countdown.
Today, they unleashed their list of the biggest Beyonce songs of all time on the Hot 100 ranked using an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least. It’s a great list and surprising how high some songs are (“Check on It” really?) and how low others are (“Bootylicious” her lowest ranking chart topper). And yes, it does include duets and recording with Destiny’s Child. So, to honor B’s upcoming 30th bday, her astounding performance of “Love on Top” on Sunday’s VMA’s and her impending baby, check out the top 30 songs by Grammy winner Beyonce. (for more on B, head to her website here: www.beyonceonline.com)

IDOL RESULTS~ The Sounds of Shania Silence Siobhan
April 29, 2010
I have to say I was a little shocked to see our favorite quirky little thing Siobhan Magnus get the boot last night on American Idol. I loved her individuality and her unique spirit. However, her lack of musical identity and inability to really know how to handle her musical gift did her in on a night when her competitors rose to the occasion on the Twain express. For my full recap of last night’s results show including the performances of Lady Antebellum, Shakira, Rascal Flatts and The Sons of Sylvia, check out my Limewire Music Blog post here.
And here’s a little Siobhan goodness to remind you of the girl who we thought might actually have a chance to take on Lee and Crystal in the finals…

Shakira’s a Gypsy on Idol (and what the Idols should sing for Shania week)
April 26, 2010
Shakira has a brand new single called “Gypsy” and she’ll be performing it this week on the results show of American Idol. Strangely, the theme this week is the music of Shania Twain. What Shania and Shakira have in common, I don’t know. I guess you could say the new single is as country as Shakira is gonna get? … Check out the video below and let me know your thoughts, and watch Shakira and Shania this week on American Idol. (Also scroll down for which Shania tracks I think the Idols should sing this week).

And here’s what I think the Idols should sing for Shania Week….
Siobhan: “Who’s Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” (It would show the fun side of her personality and get her out of ballad-ville)
Lee: “It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing” (we could get a sweet and vulnerable acoustic turn from Lee on this heartbreak ballad)
Casey: “Party for Two” (total bar band fun which is perfect for the perfectly pretty and limited Casey)
Crystal: “Any Man of Mine” (classic early Shania that Crystal could put her rock twist) … second choice: “The Woman in Me”
Aaron: “You’ve Got A Way” (you know he’s gonna go with a ballad, so how about a lesser known hit at least)
Mike: As much as I’d love to see him do “Man, I Feel Like a Woman”, ha… I think he should probably tackle “Forever and For Always”. It’s just the type of ballad that plays into his Daddy Mike lovin’ his wife persona.
