General Hospital and Anthony Geary Set Records at the Daytime Emmy Awards

June 24, 2012

General Hospital was the big winner at tonight’s Daytime Emmy Awards winning 5 awards including Best Drama Series. The show’s iconic lead actor Anthony Geary who plays Luke (of Luke & Laura lore) took home his record 7th Best Actor Emmy while his onscreen son Jonathan Jackson won his 5th Emmy, this one in the Supporting Actor category. The show also won Best Director and Supporting Actress honors for Nancy Lee Grahn who previously won this award for her work on what I consider the best soap ever, Santa Barbara…. Taking home Best Actress was Heather Tom of The Bold and the Beautiful who now has won four Daytime Emmys, and she’s the first actor to do it in three different acting categories (Lead, Supporting, and Younger Actress). Speaking of the younger actor awards, those went to first time winners Christel Khalil for The Young and the Restless and the brilliant Chandler Massey of Days of Our Lives. Best Writing also went to Days... On the Talk Show front, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa won for a second year Best Hosts for the second year in a row, while their Live show won for the first time. Take a look at all the winners below, and for more on the Daytime Emmys, head here.

Bold and the Beautiful is Gorgeous at the Daytime Emmy Awards

June 20, 2011

Winning its third Best Drama Series statue this weekend, The Bold and the Beautiful looked fabulous at the Daytime Emmys held in Las Vegas yesterday. The show led the way with honors for Series, Directing and two acting honors. Also winning again was The Ellen Degeneres Show which nabbed its 6th award for Outstanding Talk Show. With Ellen pulling herself out of the competition for Outstanding Talk Show Host a few years ago (she already won 4 times), Kelly Ripa was able to grab her first Emmy alongside Regis Philbin as they tied with Dr. Oz. For more on the awards (which criminally ignored Days of Our Lives yet again), head to the Emmy website here and check out all the winners below.

NBC gets shut out while CBS rules the Daytime Emmys

June 28, 2010

NBC might as well be out of the daytime game if you look at the winners from last night’s Daytime Emmy Awards. Despite nominations in several key categories including acting noms for 5 of its stars including the fantastic Arianne Zucker and James Scott, Days of Our Lives and it s parent network, NBC, got the big goose egg as CBS lead the way. That network’s sudser The Bold and the Beautiful took home the Best Drama series award for the second year in a row while stars from the Tiffany Network’s shows B & B, As The World Turns, and The Young and the Restless dominated the acting categories. On the talk show front, The Ellen Degeneres Show won again, but the Talk Show host award surprisingly went to Dr. Oz. As for the show itself, it was pretty much a mess. Despite trying to infuse some energy from Vegas stage shows like The Lion King and Jersey Boys plus an all-star tribute (if you like stars from the 60′s and 70′s like the Osmonds and Chubby Checker that is) in honor of Dick Clark, the show was a rather staid and boring affair. And I have no idea what was going on with host Regis Philbin’s crazy hair. For more on the show and the full list of winners, click the CBS website here and take a look at the big winners below.
