Hop bounces over Jake for Top Spot at the Box Office

A CGI bouncing bunny hopped all over the competition this weekend as Universal’s ridiculously inane kid comedy Hop hit # 1 with $38 million at the box office. The film starring Russell Brand (who’s about to flop in the Arthur remake next week, mark my words) as the bunny and a wasted James Marsden as his human buddy was able to out muscle Jake Gyllenhaal’s sci-fi thriller Source Code which netted $15 million. With strong reviews and exit polls, Code could have nice legs in the weeks ahead though. Opening in third was the new horror film Insidious which out did expectations pulling in $13 million. In their second weeks, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 held up nicely but Sucker Punch took a hit to the gut tumbling a precarious 68%. For all the numbers, take a look at the new top ten below and for more info head to Box Office Mojo.
