Idol’s Lauren Alaina v. Kelly Clarkson

When season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina first showed up on American Idol, she was christened as the perfect mashup between former winners turned Grammy winning superstars Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Unfortunately, throughout her run on Idol, Alaina had confidence and maturity issues that kept her from reaching the heights that we all know she can. She has a glorious voice and a lovely bubbly personality, and those factors helped her make it to the finals. Alas, she lost to Scotty McCreery. However, with her debut album hitting the top 5 on the pop and country charts and two top forty country hits (“Like My Mother Does” and the infectious new single “Georgia Peaches”), Alaina is finding success all her own. And now, in the grand Idol tradition, she is showing up on a Christmas special, the CMA Country Christmas airing on ABC on Dec. 1st at 8pm. On the show, she chats up a storm with Grammy winning Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles and then launches into a beautiful version of “My Grown Up Christmas List”. With this performance, we have our first perfect matchup between Alaina and Clarkson who performed the son on a Fox Idol Christmas special back in 2003. Since then, Kelly’s version has become a holiday staple. Will Alaina’s follow suit? It might. She does a great job, but let’s be honest, Clarkson blows her out of the water on her brilliant version. Check out both clips below and let me know which song would be on your Christmas play”List”.
