Awesome Surprises: Damian Bechir for Best Actor, the return of Glenn Close and Janet McTeer to the race for their great work in Albert Nobbs. This definitely helps their Oscar chances.

Shocking inclusions: Armie Hammer and Jonah Hill in the very crowded and confounding Supporting Actor race. Seriously, the only lock in that category is Christopher Plummer…. Patrick J. Adams in the Drama Actor category is a huge jaw dropper… And Greg Kinnear getting in over his Emmy winning Kennedys costars Tom Wilkinson and Barry Pepper… Oh and we love Betty White, but her nod for The Lost Valentine was pretty crazy especially over the other Emmy nominated women from Mildred Pierce.

BIG MOVIE SNUBS: no Vanessa Redgrave, Michael Fassbender, Woody Harrelson, Gary Oldman, Elizabeth Olsen, Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Ryan Gosling …. nothin’ for The Ides of March or Harry Potter or Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close… And the two biggest omissions: Shailene Woodley and Albert Brooks who have been cruising thru this awards race so far…

BIG TV SNUBS: No one from Homeland, The Killing or Parks and Recreation. That’s a crime… Plus no Jane Lynch,  Zooey Deschanel, Chris Colfer, Hugh Laurie or Hot in Cleveland in Ensemble.

This is gonna be a good race. Find out who wins on January 29th live on TBS and TNT.
