Carrie Underwood Blows Away the Competition on the Charts

Grammy winning country pop superstar Carrie Underwood blows away the competition this week on the Billboard 200 Album chart as her fourth album, the fantastic Blown Away, debuts at # 1. This give her a third chart topper on this list following Play On and Carnival Ride. Surprisingly her debut album, Some Hearts, only hit # 2 despite being her biggest seller by far with over 7 million units shifted. All four albums hit # 1 on the Country Albums chart. Blown Away is also the second biggest debut of 2012 with 267,000 copies sold coming in behind Madonna’s MDNA with over 359,000 copies… Underwood leads a bunch of debuts this week from the likes of Norah Jones, B.o.B., the Smash cast and Marilyn Manson. For more on Carrie’s chart achievements (including her 15th top ten country hit “Good Girl”) and this chart, head to Billboard here.... Also of note, fans of the Beastie Boys celebrated their music this week pushing 8 of their albums back onto the Billboard 200 following the untimely and sad passing of Boys member Adam Yauch from cancer. The highest ranking was their signature debut record, Licensed to Ill, at # 18.
