Zombies and Fish Bring Back the Box office

It took some scary zombies and an adorable fish, but the box office finally turned around a little after weeks of terrible grosses. While Resident Evil: Retribution and Finding Nemo didn’t make a huge impression, both films did open nicely. Retribution, the fifth installment in the franchise, took in $21 million while the Nemo 3D re-release tallied $17 million… The other good news came in the limited release arena as Oscar bait films The Master starring Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams and Arbitrage starring Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon both made big waves in their limited debuts. For more on their numbers and the new top ten, head to Box Office Mojo here. Also, watch for continued strong grosses for both films as they expand over the next few weeks. (I saw Arbitrage and really liked it. It’s a very smart drama and Richard Gere is brilliant. Grade: A-)… In the meantime, take a look at the latest numbers below.
