Highlights from Glee’s Thanksgiving Episode

December 1, 2012

While it seems that most viewers are enjoying the newly invigorated season of Glee, I have to say I am loving it for the most part (aside from that Glease debacle)… Anywho, this week was one of the best episodes of the seasons as they Glee kids prepped for Sectionals and Rachel and Kurt celebrated Thanksgiving in New York. Take a look at a couple of my favorite performances from the week.

First up, Rachel (Emmy/Golden Globe nominee Lea Michelle) and Kurt (Emmy nominee/Golden Globe winner Chris Colfer) take on the Scissor Sisters recent # 1 dance hit “Let’s Have a Kiki” mashed up with the classic “Turkey Lurkey Song”. They’re also joined by Emmy/Golden Globe winner Sarah Jessica Parker as Kurt’s mentor and RuPaul’s Drag Rae alum Shangela.

Next we have the Glee club’s fun take on the worldwide # 1 smash phenomena “Gangnam Style” by Psy with solos by Sam (Chord Overstreet) and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) that has a dramatic ending!

The Warblers were also a big part of the episode performing Flo Rida‘s recent #1 hit “Whistle” and One Directions’s former # 3 hit “Live While We’re Young”. Check out the later featuring Nolan Gerard Funk and Grant Gustin below.

Finally, here’s my favorite song of the episode “Homeward Bound/Home” a mashup of the Simon & Garfunkel classic and the current top ten hit by American Idol winner Phillip Phillips. It’s a beautiful interpretation featuring our favorite classic Glee characters Finn (Cory Monteith), Quinn (Diana Agron), Puck (Mark Salling), Mercedes (Amber Riley), Mike (Harry Shum Jr.) and Santana (Naya Rivera).

Glee Highlights from “Choke”

May 2, 2012

Last night Glee delivered another strong episode following its delightful Whitney Houston tribute from last week. However, the episode entitled “Choke” dealt with the serious issue of domestic abuse involving Coach Biest (Emmy nominee Dot Marie Jones) coinciding with the dramatic auditions for Kurt (Emmy nominee and Golden Globe winner Chris Colfer) and Rachel (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Lea Michelle) trying to get into NYADA. Check out my three favorite numbers below and for more on Glee, head here.

Glee- “Shake It Out” by Naya Rivera, Jenna Uskowitz and Amber Riley singing to Coach Biest (originally done by Florence + the Machine)

Glee– “Not the Boy Next Door” by Chris Colfer (originally from The Boy from Oz)

An Incredible GLEE Preview~ “How Will I Know”

April 19, 2012

Next Tuesday, Glee features another tribute episode; this one to the late great Whitney Houston. The show has covered this Grammy winning icon before, most notably with Amber Riley’s version of “I Will Always Love You” earlier this year. Now, the show will take on 7 of her greatest hits in an emotional episode that has the cast struggling with their futures and missing this wonderful icon. Now, we have the first peak at the episode with a stunning a cappella version of Whitney’s 1986 # 1 hit “How Will I Know” sung by Riley, Naya Rivera, Chris Colfer and Lea Michelle. Check it out below and I dare you not to get “goosies”. It’s simply brilliant…. And watch the whole Whitney Glee episode Tuesday April 24th on Fox.

Glee Previews~ “You Should Be Dancing” and “Disco Inferno”

April 16, 2012

This week Glee takes on the iconic 70’s disco film Saturday Night Fever with a special tribute episode featuring music from the film. Grammy winning Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame legends The Bee Gees were responsible for most of the big songs from the soundtrack which to date is the second biggest selling soundtrack of all time following Whitney Houton’s The Bodyguard. The album featured # 1 smashes “Night Fever”, “If I Cant Have You”, “Stayin’ Alive” and “You Should Be Dancing”. The latter song was actually a # 1 hit in 1976 for the Bee Gees but was featured prominently in the 1978 film, and it’s the first clip we get to preview. Check out Blaine (Darren Criss), Mike (Harry Shum Jr.) and Brittany (Heather Morris) tearing up the dance floor with their take on “You Should Be Dancing” below. Then scroll down for our next clip featuring Mercedes (Amber Riley) absolutely slaying The Tramps’ “Disco Inferno” which hit # 11 on the charts after being re-released on the Fever soundtrack. Enjoy both clips and watch an all new disco-fied Glee tomorrow night on Fox.

First Look~ Glee does Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger”

February 18, 2012

Kelly Clarkson is riding high at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for a second week with her latest smash “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and just had high-profile performances at the Super Bowl and the Grammy Awards. And next week, she is getting the Glee treatment as the cast covers her current #1 featuring vocals by Naya Rivera (Santana), Heather Morris (Brittany) and Amber Riley (Mercedes). This is the second time Glee has covered Clarkson as they did “My Life Would Suck Without You” in season 1. I’m sure the new cover will be a big highlight as the Glee kids head to the Sectionals competition. Check out your first glimpse of Glee’s “Stronger” below and watch the full show Tuesday night on Fox.

Glee Honors Whitney Houston

February 15, 2012

On tonight’s Valentine’s Day episode of Glee, the show honored the late great Whitney Houston as Amber Riley (Mercedes) gave a triumphant performance of Whitney’s signature smash “I Will Always Love You”. It was a beautiful moment in the episode that was dedicated to Houston who passed away last Saturday. It’s also a bit eerie that they filmed this episode over a month ago and the song just happened to be in the episode that aired immediately after Houston’s untimely passing. Yet, it is still a nice way to honor a woman who touched so many people who make Glee. Riley, who met Houston only a few days before her death, tweeted her devastation as did several members of the cast. With that said, let’s take another look at the highlight from the episode “Heart” below.

Glee Preview~ “Stereo Hearts”

February 11, 2012

Glee is gearing up for their big Valentine’s Day episode that will feature a lot of luvin’ going on. It will also introduce Rachel’s gay dads played by Jeff Goldblum and Broadway superstar Brian Stokes Mitchell plus The Glee Project winner Samuel Larsen will finally debut. (a full three months plus after his co-winner Damian McGinty first appeared as Rory). He will be playing a nonconformist student named Joe who joins Sam (Chord Overstreet), Quinn (Diana Agron) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) on a version of the Gym Class Heroes/Adam Levine hit “Stereo Hearts”. We’ll see if he actually gets the 7 episode arc the Glee Project win promised him (I hear they really only have to pay him for 7 episodes) or if he goes past that like the rather winning McGinty. In the meantime, check out the Glee version of “Stereo Hearts” below and watch the show Tuesday night on Fox.

Glee Highlights from “Yes/No”

January 19, 2012

This week Glee returned from the holiday hiatus with one of the best episodes of the season as several couples ruminated about the status of their relationships, and Mr. Shu (Emmy nominee Matthew Morrison) debated asking Miss Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) to marry him. It featured some fantastic covers including the current # 1 smash “We Found Love” by Rihanna. But my two favorites were the girls take on Roberta Flack’s iconic 70’s ballad “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” that will bring you to tears and an anthemic and brilliant version of “Without You” the recent top 5 hit by David Guetta and Usher. As sung by Emmy nominee Lea Michelle, the euphoric dance track became a gorgeous lament for everlasting love and it’s currently sitting at # 1 on the iTunes sales chart. Check out both wonderful songs below, and for more on Glee, head here.

This one will give us an homage to Grease as the kids perform “Summer Nights” and we get the backstory of Sam (Chord Overstreet) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) brief fling last summer. We will also get a treat with another Glee mashup of Maroon 5‘s and Christina Aguilera‘s recent # 1 “Moves Like Jagger” and the Rolling Stones‘ classic “Jumpin Jack Flash”, and I have it for you below. Glee Preview~ Sectionals and the Return of Sam!

December 2, 2011

Glee is gearing up for a big episode next week as the New Directions head into Sectionals to compete against the girl power of the Troubletones. And I have your first peak here. Check out the ladies of the Troubletones featuring solos by Santana (Naya Rivera) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) doing an incredible mashup of Gloria Gaynor’s iconic #1 classic “I Will Survive” and Destiny’s Child’s mega smash “Survivor” below.

In the episode, the New Directions will be doing the music of Michael Jackson and it also looks like a familiar face will be joining them… Sam (Chord Overstreet). Overstreet is returning to the show for an undetermined number of episodes throughout the rest of the season and he gets his own welcome back number this week. Check out Sam doing Toby Keith’s atrocious and moronic “Red Solo Cup” below. (Um, Glee creators~ why oh why did you choose this terrible track?)… And watch an all new Glee Tuesday night on Fox.
