Highlights from Glee’s Thanksgiving Episode

December 1, 2012

While it seems that most viewers are enjoying the newly invigorated season of Glee, I have to say I am loving it for the most part (aside from that Glease debacle)… Anywho, this week was one of the best episodes of the seasons as they Glee kids prepped for Sectionals and Rachel and Kurt celebrated Thanksgiving in New York. Take a look at a couple of my favorite performances from the week.

First up, Rachel (Emmy/Golden Globe nominee Lea Michelle) and Kurt (Emmy nominee/Golden Globe winner Chris Colfer) take on the Scissor Sisters recent # 1 dance hit “Let’s Have a Kiki” mashed up with the classic “Turkey Lurkey Song”. They’re also joined by Emmy/Golden Globe winner Sarah Jessica Parker as Kurt’s mentor and RuPaul’s Drag Rae alum Shangela.

Next we have the Glee club’s fun take on the worldwide # 1 smash phenomena “Gangnam Style” by Psy with solos by Sam (Chord Overstreet) and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) that has a dramatic ending!

The Warblers were also a big part of the episode performing Flo Rida‘s recent #1 hit “Whistle” and One Directions’s former # 3 hit “Live While We’re Young”. Check out the later featuring Nolan Gerard Funk and Grant Gustin below.

Finally, here’s my favorite song of the episode “Homeward Bound/Home” a mashup of the Simon & Garfunkel classic and the current top ten hit by American Idol winner Phillip Phillips. It’s a beautiful interpretation featuring our favorite classic Glee characters Finn (Cory Monteith), Quinn (Diana Agron), Puck (Mark Salling), Mercedes (Amber Riley), Mike (Harry Shum Jr.) and Santana (Naya Rivera).

Glee Previews~ “You Should Be Dancing” and “Disco Inferno”

April 16, 2012

This week Glee takes on the iconic 70’s disco film Saturday Night Fever with a special tribute episode featuring music from the film. Grammy winning Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame legends The Bee Gees were responsible for most of the big songs from the soundtrack which to date is the second biggest selling soundtrack of all time following Whitney Houton’s The Bodyguard. The album featured # 1 smashes “Night Fever”, “If I Cant Have You”, “Stayin’ Alive” and “You Should Be Dancing”. The latter song was actually a # 1 hit in 1976 for the Bee Gees but was featured prominently in the 1978 film, and it’s the first clip we get to preview. Check out Blaine (Darren Criss), Mike (Harry Shum Jr.) and Brittany (Heather Morris) tearing up the dance floor with their take on “You Should Be Dancing” below. Then scroll down for our next clip featuring Mercedes (Amber Riley) absolutely slaying The Tramps’ “Disco Inferno” which hit # 11 on the charts after being re-released on the Fever soundtrack. Enjoy both clips and watch an all new disco-fied Glee tomorrow night on Fox.

Glee~ “We Are Young”

December 7, 2011

Last night Glee continued their resurgent and wonderful third season with an awesome episode featuring the return of Trouty Mouth Sam (Chord Overstreet, who hello apparently took some acting lessons on his break~ well done) and the Sectionals competition. There were great numbers like the Troubletones “I Will Survive/Survivor” mashup which I posted a few days ago and the Michael Jackson/Janet Jackson songs the New Directions performed. (Quick shout out to Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Ushkowitz for some great work last night too)… However, one of my favorites from last night was a song I had never heard before: “We Are Young” originally done by a group called Fun. Rarely have I not heard of the songs they cover on Glee, so I was thrilled with this surprise. And what a great song it is. Glee’s version is currently # 1 on iTunes and I have it for you below. Enjoy and watch the Glee Christmas episode next Tuesday on Fox.

Glee “Asian F” Highlights

October 5, 2011

Well, the title of this week’s Glee may have been “Asian F”, but I gave last night’s episode a big “A” grade. It was by far the best of the season and incorporated everything we love about the show from the first season. Plus, the spotlight shined on two of our fave glee clubbers who don’t get much attention, Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Mike (Harry Shum Jr.). The former went all diva in her Jennifer Hudson audition song (I shared that with you the other day) and her Dreamgirls and Fame numbers while the latter had his first great singing solo on “Cool” (which unfortunately I cant find any video of yet). We also had some beautifully played moments with Mike (hello Shum has become quite the actor) and his parents. Great stuff. And of course, it culminated in a gorgeous version of Coldplay’s “Fix You” by Mr. Shu (Matthew Morrison) and the kids. Check out the song highlights below.

Rachel (Lea Michelle) & Mercedes “Out Here on my Own” (from Fame)

Glee Club “It’s All Over” (from Dreamgirls)

Brittany (Heather Morris) w/Santana (Naya Rivera)- “Run the World (Girls)” (originally done by Beyonce, and hello, this version actually made me like the song!)

Glee’s Amber Riley shines in the “Spotlight”

October 3, 2011

Glee continues to highlight its core characters this week in its much improved third season. (Though, let’s be honest, I was one of the one’s who still loved season 2). Tuesday night, the focus shifts to storylines featuring Mike Chang (the awesome and abtacular Harry Shum Jr.) and Mercedes (Amber Riley). We will meet Mike’s parents and learn more about his upbringing while Mercedes will embark in a full on diva-off with Rachel (Emmy nominee Lea Michelle) as she auditions for the school musical. We will also see what led to Amber’s diva antics and it’s a big showcase for Riley’s incredible talents. Watch her awesome audition number to Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight” below and catch the new episode, which also features a heart-breaking performance of Coldplay‘s “Fix You” by Emmy nominee Matthew Morrison), Tuesday on Fox.
