Shameless Self Promotion~ Hot in Cleveland

February 9, 2011

It’s time again for some shameless self promotion!! Yes, I’m tooting my own horn for ya. I will be making a guest appearance on the hysterical sitcom Hot in Cleveland tonight at 10pm on TV Land. Watch for me as a casting director in a scene with Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Wendie Malick (Just Shoot Me) plus Oscar nominated guest star Melanie Griffith! I guarantee you will be busting a gut. The episode entitled “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Spanx”, directed by the awesome Emmy nominee David Trainer, is a brilliant one and also features Jack Wagner along with Cleveland stars Golden Globe nominee Valerie Bertinelli (One Day at a Time), Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Jane Leeves (Frasier) and multiple Emmy winner, comedic legend and recent SAG Award winner for this show, the amazing Betty White. (PS- a big thanks and shout out to the amazing casting guys for Cleveland, Collin Daniel and Brett Greenstein and everyone at Greenstein/Daniel Casting!) “Hot in Cleveland” is Hot n’ Hilarious!

June 17, 2010

TV Land ushered in its first original comedy last night with the hilarious sitcom Hot in Cleveland about 3 women “of a certain age” from Los Angeles who discover that they are indeed hot in Cleveland after a pit stop there. The trio is played by Emmy nominees Jane Leeves (Frasier) and Wendie Malick (Just Shoot Me) and Golden Globe nominee Valerie Bertinelli (One Day at a Time) and they are a crack ensemble. Adding to the cache is 4 time Emmy winner and red-hot superstar Betty White as the curmudgeonly caretaker of the house the ladies end up renting in an effort to kickstart their lives and try something new. Here, in Cleveland they are seen as real, attractive women with a lot to offer; whereas in LA, they are all too often passed over. Wendie’s aging soap actress character is even being reduced to auditioning to play Megan Fox’s grandmother. Oh the horror. While that joke may seem a little obvious, in Malick’s capable hands, it’s hilarious. In fact, these great actresses, especially Malick and White, elevate the material and make it an uproariously good time. (Side note: I acted opposite Malick on the dearly departed Jake in Progress and let me tell you, she’s not only gorgeous and incredibly talented but also a wonderful and welcoming person). And I defy you not to giggle out loud at Jane Leeves licking herself after a night of drunken salty food eating fun. The show is also a throwback to the sitcoms of the 80’s and 90’s in style and tone that is appropriate for TV Land’s audience but is still enticing for new audiences because they do it so well. It feels like you’re hanging out with the new Golden Girls, just a little younger and now Betty White is mama Sophia. I say all that with love because the show, co-produced by Emmy winner and recent Tony nominee Sean Hayes, has incredible potential and is a great time. I look forward to seeing the ladies gel even further as an ensemble and explore what shenanigans these LA transplants will get into in middle America. Grade: A

Betty’s Brilliance, the lost “Debbie Downer” sketch, muffins, and more!

May 10, 2010

We all know Betty White is a comedic TV legend who’s riding a hot streak in her 6th decade on-screen. With hit movies (The Proposal), big Super Bowl commercials, iconic TV roles on cherished shows (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Golden Girls),16 Emmy nominations and 4 wins, Betty can do wrong, and she proved it yet again with her hilarious and brilliant turn hosting Saturday Night Live over the weekend. The 88 1/2 year old showed the kids how you do it with one of the funniest SNL’s in ages and its highest rated in over 2 years. She’s not easing up anytime soon either with a funny new TV Land sitcom, Hot in Cleveland, premiering in June (co-starring Jane Leeves, Valerie Bertinelli, and Wendie Malick), plus another comedy feature, You Again with Kristen Bell, out in September. Whew, I’m tired just typing. Imagine how Betty must feel. Oh, let’s be honest. She is the unstoppable energizer bunny and, I’ll say it, a national treasure. The SAG Awards even bestowed their Lifetime Achievement Award upon her in January where she gave an uproarious speech and memorably chided her Proposal costar Sandra Bullock. Everybody loves Betty! And you can love her some more right now. I’ve got arguably the funniest sketch from this weekend’s SNL for you, The NPR “Muffin” scene, plus the lost sketch with “Debbie Downer” and the full episode. Check them out below and long live Betty!
