ABC’s “Charlie’s Angels”~ your first look!

May 19, 2011

All this week, the big TV networks have been announcing their new fall lineups and there are some great shows on the way. Unfortunately, many of them (NBC’s Smash and Awake, ABC’s Good Christian Belles) won’t be arriving til midseason. However, one big fun show I’m very excited for is ABC’s reboot of the classic 70’s show Charlie’s Angels. And now the first clips of the show have hit the web. Take a look at Rachael Taylor, Annie Ilonzeh and the awesome Minka Kelly in Charlie’s Angels below.

Charlie’s Angels (2011)

Check out ABC’s New 2011 Fall Schedule

May 17, 2011

With their biggest scripted hits, Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy, getting a little long in the tooth, ABC is making a play for some new hits with its just announced fall schedule. They’re looking to big names (Tim Allen), big franchises (Charlie’s Angels) and sexy soaps (Pan Am, Revenge) to jump out of third place in the ratings. Taking a look at the new lineup, it looks pretty interesting and stronger than last fall’s by a mile. But enough of me, take a look at the new list, plus descriptions of the new shows and what’s coming at midseason, and my take on the schedule below.

8/7c Dancing with the Stars
10 pm Castle

8 pm LAST MAN STANDING: a comedy featuring the return of Tim Allen (Home Improvement) to TV as a manly marketing director surrounded by a gaggle of women at home including his wife played by Nancy Travis (Three Men and a Baby).
8:30 pm MAN UP: a sitcom about modern men redefining just what being a man is all about starring Dan Fogler, Henry Simmons, Christopher Moynihan, and Teri Polo.

8:30 pm SUBURGATORY: a comedy about a big city single dad (Jeremy Sisto) and his daughter (Jane Levy) moving to the hell known as the suburbs. The show also features Alan Tudyk and Emmy nominee Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm).
9 pm Modern Family
9:30 pm Happy Endings [new time slot]
10 pm REVENGE: a new drama about a woman (Brothers and Sisters’ Emily Van Camp) returning to her childhood hometown to right wrongs from years past.

8 pm CHARLIE’S ANGELS: a hot reboot of the classic series set in Miami this time starring Rachael Taylor (Grey’s Anatomy), newcomer Annie Illonzeh and the fabulous Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights). It will also include a sexier younger and Latin Bosley played by Ramon Rodriguez (The Wire).
9 pm Grey’s Anatomy
10 pm Private Practice

8 pm Extreme Makeover: Home Edition [new time slot]
9 pm Shark Tank [new time slot]
10 pm 20/20

10 pm PAN AM: a sexy soap set in the 1960’s in the world of air travel starring Christina Ricci and Kelli Garner.

Good Christian Belles: a wicked soap set in Dallas starring Leslie Bibb (Popular), David James Elliott (JAG) and Emmy winner Kristen Chenowith (Pushing Daisies).
Missing: a suspense drama starring Ashley Judd as a mother and former CIA agent searching for her kidnapped son in Europe.
The River: an adventure series about a son (Joe Anderson) and his mother (24’s Leslie Hope) who go searching for their missing father/husband (Bruce Greenwood) in the magical Amazon river area.
Scandal: a drama from Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes about a professional crisis manager (Ray’s Kerry Washington) and her dysfunctional staff. The show also features Emmy nominee Henry Ian Cusick (Lost), Guillermo Diaz (Weeds) and Tony Goldwyn (Ghost).
Apartment 23: a wacky comedy about a sweet Midwestern girl (The Good Wife’s Dreama Walker) who moves in with a big ole beotch (Breaking Bad’s Krysten Ritter) in New York City. And in a clever twist James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek) plays a heightened version of himself on the show too.
Work It: call this comedy Bosom Buddies 2.0 as it features two guys’ guys dressing as women to get jobs as pharmaceutical reps and find success. The show stars Ben Koldyke (How I Met Your Mother) and Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break) as the men who are gonna have to, ahem, “work it”.

NOT RETURNING NEXT SEASON: Better With You, Brothers & Sisters, Detroit 1-8-7, Mr. Sunshine, My Generation, No Ordinary Family, Off the Map, The Whole Truth and V.

And here’s my quick take on the schedule…

The Good: Happy Endings was picked up and gets a plum timeslot! Charlie’s Angels will probably give ABC their first hit in the Thurday at 8pm hour in ages.
The Bad: Why are they waiting til midseason to bring out their buzziest show Good Christian Belles (formerly titled Good Christian Bitches, hehe)? Plus no Cougar Town til midseason… And a sad buh bye to the underrated V and the long running Brothers and Sisters
The Blah: A show with Ashley Judd~ yuck, and um, snore… And Jeremy Sisto in a comedy? Not sold on that… Plus do we really need a new Tim Allen sitcom? … And more Bachelor come midseason…

The Roommate kills at the top of the Box Office

February 6, 2011

On this big super bowl weekend, some people still preferred going to the movies, most notably young women who helped power the thriller The Roommate into the top spot with $15.6 million. The film starring Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester and Friday Night Light’s Minka Kelly (who’s just been cast in the new Charlie’s Angels TV reboot) easily beat the competition with the only other new release, Sanctum, giving Universal pictures another bomb with only $9.2 million despite 3D prices… .The rest of the top ten was business as usual with the Oscar contenders holding well and newer releases like last week’s topper, The Rite, plummeting fast. Take a look at the full top ten from Box Office Mojo below and congrats to my friend Minka on her # 1 movie too!

A Gossip Girl Goes Nuts

September 24, 2010

Every Monday the CW’s hit Gossip Girl gives you gorgeous women and serious drama and now one of its stars it giving you both on the big screen…. with a side of crazy. While Blake Lively has been pursuing artsy big screen projects (The Town, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee) to strong acclaim, her costar Leighton Meester is going the commercial route with a big role in the new thriller The Roommate. In a bit of a Single White Female update for the college set, Meester plays the crazy roommate obsessed with her friend played by the lovely Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights). Looking at the trailer, the film seems rather entertaining and full of psycho cuckoo from Meester. This isn’t really my kind of movie, but I’m pretty intrigued and I love Minka. (I know her in real life and she’s a doll). Plus the film features Ally Michalka (Hellcats, Easy A), Cam Gigandet (Twilight, Burlesque, Easy A) and Matt Lanter (90210) who I worked with on Disaster Movie. Here’s hoping it’s as fun and freaky as Single White Female. Check out the trailer below and watch for The Roommate to hit theatres in February, 2011.
