Shameless Self Promotion~ Catch me on “Scandal”!

May 16, 2012

Hey readers,
I’ve got another one for you. After recent posts about my appearances in the web series The Adventures of Velvet Prozak and Sammy Kingsford: Manager to the Stars, I’m here to promote myself on a show ya’ll have probably heard of, ABC’s Scandal. Check out my small but I’m sure brilliant appearance as a Georgia reporter berating the President (Tony Goldwyn) about his alleged affair. Don’t blink or you could miss me. It was incredibly fun to shoot the show where I was finally doing something other than a comedy (but oh I do love comedy), and everyone on set was so nice. Mr. Goldwyn, who you probably remember best as the villain in Ghost but is also an accomplished film director (Conviction) and Broadway star (I saw him in the wonderful revival of Promises Promises a couple years ago), was wonderful to work with and the episode is a really juicy one. I’m thrilled the show was picked up for season 2 because you are so gonna want to find out what happens to Olivia Pope (the gorgeous and talented Kerry Washington) and her cohorts along with the scandal surrounding the murder of Amanda Tanner. It’s another fantastic show from Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes and I hope it gets some Emmy recognition. I have to give a special shout out to Jeff Perry for his brilliant portrayal of the smart and scheming Chief of Staff Cyrus Been. He had better get an Emmy nomination! … Anywho, enough of my babbling, check out the season finale of Scandal this Thursday on ABC at 10pm. Watch for me and enjoy this brilliant show!

Review~ Strong Performances bolster the solid drama “Conviction”

October 11, 2010

In the new film Conviction, two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank (Boys Don’t Cry, Million Dollar Baby) plays real life bartender cum lawyer Betty Anne Waters in the true story of how she worked non stop for 18 years to free her brother from a murder conviction while raising her family. After the system and everyone turned against her, Waters got her college and law school degrees to continue to fight for what she considered an erroneous conviction for her ne’er-do-well brother Kenny, masterfully played by Sam Rockwell. This solid drama directed by Tony Goldwyn (the bad guy in Ghost and currently on Broadway in Promises Promises)¬†follows a simple trajectory of the story of a brutal slaying leading to the conviction and the fight for Kenny’s exoneration. While that may sound straightforward and the dialogue at times is somewhat generic, in the hands of its fantastic cast, the movie rises to the next level. Swank is at her best as the emotional determined Waters and she’s wonderfully aided by Oscar nominees Melissa Leo (Frozen River) as a shady cop and Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting) as her sassy law school buddy adding weight and humor to an otherwise tertiary character. However the standout performances come from Rockwell who’s sure to get an Oscar nomination and Juliette Lewis (a former Oscar nominee for Cape Fear) in a small but pivotal role as a questionable witness. Both are just incredible and you can’t take your eyes off them. It’s a rather strong piece of work all around and will be a serious Oscar contender in the months ahead. Grade: A-
