Hot New Idol Music from Daughtry, J Hud, Scotty, Lauren, James and More

November 1, 2011

While Fox is busy trying to make The X Factor happen and failing miserably at it (the show is a disastrous mess), the talent competition that started it all, American Idol,  is gearing up for season 11. Following season 10’s rebound with great singers, strong ratings and a fun new judging panel, the top two finalists, Scotty & Lauren, both released hit albums and are now unleashing follow-up singles. But, they’re not the only Idols with new songs out. Take a look at the latest from some of your favorite Idol alumni and head to iTunes here to grab all their music.

Scotty McCreery: Since winning the competition this year, Scotty’s debut album, Clear as Day, hit # 1 on the Pop and Country charts and is about to hit Gold status. He hit the top twenty with his coronation single “I Love You This Big” which is almost platinum, and now his first official single “The Trouble With Girls” is nearing the top 30 on the country charts.

Lauren Alaina: this year’s runner-up hit the Country top forty with her coronation single “Like My Mother Does” and it’s nearing Gold status while her debut album hit # 2 on the country album chart and # 5 on the pop chart. Now, she’s releasing her first proper single “Georgia Peaches” and it’s starting to impact country radio. It’s a really fun song and check out Lauren looking amazing, singing the crap out of it on the Ellen show below.

James Durbin: the fourth place finisher from this year has his first album, Memories of a Beautiful Disaster, set for release on November 21st and his first single is out today. The rocking track “Love Me Bad” is surprisingly good mixing his pop and metal influences perfectly. We’ll see if he has similar success to his Idol classmates in the weeks ahead.

Casey James: remember him? Casey was the blond hottie who finished third in the dubious season 9 behind Lee (who won, then tanked with his first album, and has since been dropped from his label) and Crystal (the runner-up who sold ok with her first album~ about 100k more than Lee , but has since parted ways with her label as well). Now, he’s released his first single “Let’s Don’t Call It a Night” which just hit the country top 40. Watch for his debut album later this year or in early 2012.

David Cook: Season 7’s big winner had great success with his debut album. However, his follow-up This Loud Morning, has been a huge disappointment and disappeared off the charts despite a top ten debut. We’ll see if his second single “Fade Into Me” (previously heard this summer on So You Think You Can Dance) will propel sales and bring him back to Adult Top 40 and Adult Contemporary radio where he had hits in the past.

Jennifer Hudson: the Grammy and Oscar-winning superstar released her second # 2 album, I Remember Me, earlier this year and just released her third single “I Got This”. I expect it to hit her sweet spot with Urban AC and Urban radio like the previous singles “Where You At?” and “No One Gonna Love You”. Check it out below and watch for Hudson in the film biopic Winnie as Winnie Mandela later this year.
Jennifer Hudson “I Got This” (live at AOL sessions~ how amazing does she look?! …. And yes, that’s George Huff on background vocals who finished 5th on Hudson’s season~ two spots ahead of her, ahem….)

Chris Daughtry: after two # 1 hit albums and  8 hit songs with his band Daughtry, Chris and company are back with their third disc Break the Spell on Nov. 21st (yes, the same day as James Durbin’s album is released). The first single from the set “Crawling Back to You” is already top 20 at Hot AC and has hit the top 40 on the Hot 100.

Kelly Clarkson: The Grammy winning superstar’s fifth album, Stronger, was released last week and is expected to debut at # 2 tomorrow giving her a 5th consecutive top three album. She’s up for two CMA Awards next week for her massive smash duet with Jason Aldean “Don’t You Wanna Stay” next week, will have a VH1 Unplugged special later this month, is performing at the American Music Awards on Nov. 20 and will headline the next VH1 Divas special (alongside Hudson) in December. The first single off of Stronger, “Mr. Know It All” is sitting pretty in the top 5 of the Hot AC charts and gone top 15 at Pop, Adult Contemporary and the Hot 100. Watch for it to fly into the top ten of those charts this week. And now, she has a new dance remix of the single hitting the clubs. Take a listen below.

And there you have it~ a quick update on new music from some of your favorite Idols. Keep an eye open in the months ahead for new Idol music from Carrie Underwood (her fourth album is rumored to drop in March), Adam Lambert (his sophomore release is due in March with a single in January), Kellie Pickler (her third album, 100 Proof, drops on January 24, 2012), and this year’s third place finisher Haley Reinhart whose debut is due early next year.

Jennifer Hudson will make you Dance!

August 22, 2011

She’s got an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Grammy and now she wants to rule the dance floor… Jennifer Hudson may be best known for her big booming voice and her award-winning role in Dreamgirls, but she’s also carved out a niche as a dance diva. She’s had several dance club smashes with the remixes of her hits “Where You At?”, “If this Isn’t Love”, “Spotlight” and “And I am Telling You”, and now she’s got two more ready to hit the floor. She’s already climbing the charts with the remix of “No One Gonna Love You”, the second single off her sophomore album, I Remember Me, but she also has a brand new track with the current king of the dance floor, David Guetta. The song off of his sophomore album, Nothing but the Beat, due Aug 29th is entitled “Night of Your Life” and it’s smokin! Watch for it to annihilate the dance floors any day now. Check out the new single from these powerhouses below and for more on Jennifer who also stars in the biopic Winnie hitting theatres at year’s end, head to her website here.

New Summer “Idol” Music

June 28, 2011

In honor of American Idol season 7 winner David Cook releasing his sophomore album, This Loud Morning, today, I’ve decided it’s time to look at some hot new music from several Idols for your summer… Enjoy!

David Cook: his second album has garnered stronger reviews than the first and looks assured to debut in next week’s top ten on the Billboard Album charts. The first single “The Last Goodbye” has gone top 40 on Hot AC and top 30 on AC. However, I think this proposed second single “Fade Into Me” could really be huge. The lovely ballad already made a big impression on last week’s So You Think You Can Dance and is currently the biggest selling individual track off the album. Take a listen below.

Kellie Pickler: it may surprise some people, but this Southern belle has become a bona-fide country star with 6 top twenty country singles and over a million albums sold. The sixth place finisher from season five is readying her third album due this fall and the first single, “Tough” just hit the country top 40. And here it is…
Kellie Pickler “Tough”

Chris Richardson: Chris who? Well, he was the Timberlake-like hottie from season 6 who wound up in fifth place. He’s struggled to get his own solo career off the ground but has been writing and producing since he finished the show. Now, he’s finally gracing a hit song alongside rapper Tyga with the track “Far Away” which just went top 40 on the Rhythmic charts and is climbing up the Pop and R&B charts as well. See if you like it below.
Tyga & Chris Richardson “Far Away”

Jennifer Hudson: the Oscar and Grammy winner couldn’t possibly be busier. She has several films in the pipeline (including the Oscar-bait biopic about Winnie Mandela, Winnie, due late this year), plus her ongoing job as a Weight Watchers spokeswoman and she’s cranking out hits off her second hit album, I Remember Me. The official second single just hit top 20 on the Adult R&B charts and is now top 30 on the R&B charts. Check out “No One Gonna Love You” below.
Jennifer Hudson “No One Gonna Love You”

Carrie Underwood: the newlywed Grammy winning megastar recently had her first hit film with Soul Surfer and is hard at work on her fourth album due in the winter. In the meantime, she has another smash single with her current duet “Remind Me” with Brad Paisley off his This is Country Music album. The track just hit the top 15 on the Country Charts, and mark my words, it will become her 12th # 1 in a few weeks. Remind yourself of Carrie’s brilliance below:
Carrie Underwood & Brad Paisley “Remind Me”

And keep an eye out for the original Idol, Grammy winner Kelly Clarkson, who is releasing a new track in August with an album to follow in October (possibly early September). And of course, she’s just hit the top ten on the AC and Hot AC and the top 40 on the Pop charts with her former # 1 country smash “Don’t You Wanna Stay” with Jason Aldean…. Plus new albums are due from Idol’s season ten finalists Scotty McCreery (who has a top 20 country hit with “I Love You This Big”) and Lauren Alaina (who is climbing the country charts with “Like My Mother Does”) in November…. Plus, the girl who should’ve won Idol this season, Pia Toscano, is rumored to have an album out in November or December. And Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Casey James, and Haley Reinhart are rumored to have releases due by the end of the year as well…. Jennifer Hudson wants to know “Where You At?”

January 24, 2011

Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson is back. After facing some personal tragedy with the loss of three family members, Hudson is ready for a return to the spotlight with a new album, a rockin’ new body (courtesy of Weight Watchers) and a new film, Winnie, due in the fall. First on tap is her new album, I Remember Me, which drops on March 22. The new record includes collaborations with Ne Yo and Alicia Keyes among others and the first great new single just hit the web. Check out the brand new mommy’s latest “Where You At?” below and for more on Jennifer, head here. (Oh and a side note~ did you see the new opening credits for American Idol? Jennifer is featured alongside two other superstars, Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry, who all didn’t win their season intermixed with pictures from all the winners of the previous seasons. Looks like the producers are finally getting smart and showing all the stars from the show).

Jennifer Hudson is Feelin’ Good

January 3, 2011

Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson is feelin’ good. Not only has she lost a ton of weight and looks even more gorgeous than before (thanks to Weight Watchers), but she’s also got a lot on tap for 2011. She has a new album in the works and a new film, Winnie, due in the fall. To start the year off right, she performed “Feelin’ Good” at ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and it was fantastic. Check out Jennifer’s incredible performance here and watch for her new album in the spring.
